According to Brian McRae reporting for Sports Radio 810 in Kansas City, the Royals acquired Coco Crisp from the Red Sox for reliever Ramon Ramirez. I emailed McRae to confirm, and he said, "It's a done deal."

Does this mean DeJesus is expendable? I'd much rather have him than Teahen.

He's a younger more athletic LH bat...

Yes it does, of course this is the Cubs we're talking about - odds are good they'll make the wrong choice here and go with Teahen and give up too much in prospects for him.

Sorry to be so pessimistic, but I have very little confidence in the organizations ability to evaluate talent well. We'll see what happens I guess - maybe I'll be surprised.

Not that I want to disagree with the group think going on here that DeJesus is better than Teahen, but it should be pointed out that DeJesus is not younger. In fact, he is actually almost 2 years older than Teahen.

True point.

However, DeJesus did put up a 119 OPS+ last season, which is almost as good as the only year Teahen has put up an OPS+ over 100 (122).

DeJesus has had four seasons over 100 OPS+, while Teahen has had one. I wouldn't give a ton for either, but I'd certainly prefer DeJesus.

Hendry must not be very interested in or optimistic that we'll sign Bradley or Ibanez if he's looking to trade for Teahen or DeJesus.

Or he just knows they will be cheaper

And not as good.

Yeah, I was referring to Lou (or Hendry?) that insinuated earlier that the team needed to get younger and more athletic as a whole, not a comparison of the two players.

But they will be younger and more athletic. Bradley, Abreu, and Ibanez may be better hitters, but they would be a disaster in the field.

Personally, I'd take the younger, better fielding, more athletic DeJesus for this price tag:

09:$3.6M, 10:$4.7M, 11:$6M club option ($0.5M buyout)

Than what it will probably cost to have the older, terrible defensive player, albeit better hitter in Ibanez. I'm assuming he'll get at least 3 years for at least double what DeJesus will make.

Why would the Sox need Ramirez. They seem to be pretty solid at middle relief with Delcarmen, Lopez, and Okajima.

Payroll relief. Ellsbury is probably ready to play CF everyday with this move, and it frees up money to outbid the Yankees for a SP.

But that's why they got rid of Crisp, which I understand. But why Ramirez in return?

Cheap bullpen help is always a good thing. They weren't going to get much for Crisp.

Yeah, that's actually a pretty decent return for Crisp. So, DeJesus, Gathright, Crisp....

Are the Royals trying to build the least powerful outfield in the majors?

Anyone else think DeJesus is just a slightly-better Reed Johnson?

Maybe, but that's a really good CF platoon.

DeJesus OPS'ed .875 vs. RHP last year and Johnson OPS'ed .848 vs. LHP last year

DeJesus is 3 years younger and isn't he a pretty good defensive CF? Of course that leaves us with the question of what to do with Fukudome, not to mention Pie, because I'm assuming if DeJesus were to be acquired then he would be a CF.

Not really, KC traded for a center fielder to move DeJesus off of center field.
