Levine is on fire tonight

- "The Peavy deal is back on"

- DeRosa is probably going to be involved. "Would not be suprised if DeRosa is gone in next 3 days"

Hendry is moving money around to get Peavy and possibly Bradley.

So what will be the reason why the can't complete this time?

Are you kidding?

No. All quotes are direct quotes.

Well, here we go again......

Yes. It sounds like the Cubs are ready to trade DeRosa to a third team for prospects. Some of the prospects will go to the Padres. Levine thinks Vizcaino may be moved as well, and that the salary saved from Marquis and DeRosa will allow the Cubs to get Peavy. He was saying something about Fukudome getting another shot in RF or something to that effect but I was distracted.

I wish they'd just let the Peavy talk die. No point in getting our hopes up.

Also, neither guy is a very reliable source. conflicting reports: per Rotoworld:

ESPN's Steve Phillips is reporting that the Cubs are close to sending Jason Marquis to the Rockies for Luis Vizcaino.

Some cash almost certainly would be involved as well. This is a lot more about the Cubs wanting to dump Marquis than it is any desire for Vizcaino. With an open rotation spot, they could well enter the mix for Derek Lowe or Randy Wolf. It seems unlikely that the Jake Peavy talks will be revisited.

Why are people upset by this? Us being back in the picture for Peavy would be GREAT news if true. I hope Levine is right.

I hope he's right too. But I don't want to hear another columnist say, "The Peavy deal is essentially complete", only to find out it was all a pipedream. It's always such a letdown.

When was the last time a "big" Hendry trade was leaked to the media days before it happened?

Nomar Garciaparra.

Anyway, I'm not getting worked up over this until I see him at the press conference.

the harden trade was certainly not leaked. there were like a couple of small rumors about the cubs possibly be interested in him a couple weeks before that but that's all

It was talked about a pretty good deal leading up to it, but *nobody* expected it to get done as soon as it did.

I told you guys these talks were never dead in the first place. It was common sense. No reason for the Cubs to close the door on this when they're in such a position of strength.

I'm not speaking to everyone here, obviously, but I'm just saying that you shouldn't overreact to every snippet you hear. Just as much as it wasn't done when people were reporting it "all but done," it wasn't dead when it was being reported as dead. Rumors are rumors. No point in dealing with absolutes here.

well a rumored trade happening and a trade being leaked are 2 different things. remember there was the article about how the trade happened, and they didn't actually do it until the night before it was announced, when jim called billy and said he'd include gallagher.

Yea... and Jake Peavy. It's not like the Cubs haven't had trade negotiations that were very public in the past. Sammy Sosa (both in 2000, but that wasn't Hendry, and in 04-05).

Just because they don't wind up happening doesn't mean there isn't significant substance to the reports.

But they were talking about it for like a month, and the reports/rumors didn't come out of thin air. There was obviously truth to the fact that they were having discussions. They just had a breakthrough that night when Gaudin was included.

I'm just saying... some people act like Hendry is this obsessive secretive guy like Jerry Krause who never lets any information leak about what he's doing.

I dont know, with a deal this big, between rotoworld and mlbtraderumors, had they heard a rumor from Jim Hendreys nephews, best friends, mothers, boyfriends, dentists, bookies, cousins, dog sitter, it would have been posted instantly, and neither of those 2 sites mention anything about Peavy.

What exactly would you like them to mention?

The first thing they'll mention is Levine's report, so waiting for them to acknowledge what we already know is pointless
