That's unlikely. He's looking to receive a large number of players that almost all would need placed on the 40 man immediately. If he wants somebody in the rule 5, he's already got a roster crunch... waiting wont help.

I might be wrong, but I don't think it works that way. You have to submit your 40 man roster by a particular date, thereby exposing those players that are not on the 40 man and not protected by other means to Rule 5.

 

If you allowed teams to pull players back in, the Rule 5 draft would be a crazy mess.
