Muschamp named Mack Brown's successor today. I find this kind of strange considering Muschamp could be given some offers as soon as this offseason to be HC.

I'm sure the idea is to try to keep him from leaving. You "guarantee" that he'll take a premier job in a couple or few years, he's more likely to stay.

I don't know if I'd call Washington #1, but Washington State is definitely #2.

In other crude news, there are hintings at a Dick exchange this weekend.

Is Little Dick taking over for Big Dick?

BYU better beat Utah this weekend. If Utah goes to a BCS game i hope they get smoked.

For selfish reasons, the only hope I have left for my Cardinals (or will, if we get the job done tomorrow) is that Utah, Nevada and (shudder) Michigan all win this week. If those three do not all win then our hopes are done.

Thankfully, I am going to a career fair tomorrow in Indy so I won't have time to think about the BSU game until shortly before it happens - otherwise I'd be a nervous wreck all day.

We disagree. Can't you let it go? Everyone knows you think we'd get crushed.

And Truffle, thanks to TV we play Tuesday or Wednesday all of November.

That's the thing, we really have no clue to when Brown maybe wants to leave.

That's the rumor. They're splitting reps 50/50.

I agree with Meph, while it would be cool to see a team like them go. They will get crushed and I have no desire to watch it.

I think an ACC or Big East winner could at least compete with a team from the Big XII or SEC in the BCS. Ball State would get murdered by them all. Utah, at the very least, probably can make it a game against the Alabama's, Ohio State's, Penn State's of the world and will probably beat the Big East winner. Although a Miami-Fl vs Utah game would be very entertaining. Boise State would get rocked though. Really I think we'll see this:

Sugar Bowl: SEC Loser vs Utah

Orange Bowl: ACC Winner vs Big East Winner

Fiesta Bowl: Big XII Loser vs Ohio State

Rose Bowl: USC vs Penn State

National Championship: SEC Winner vs Big XII Winner

I do not think we will see a game where the ACC or Big East champs have a chance to prove their merit against a top ten team. If that Sugar Bowl is Utah vs Alabama, that could be a very good game. Alabama does not have the fire power to outclass Utah on defense, so it should be close. USC will cruise passed Penn State. Big XII (South) Loser (Texas) will cruise passed Ohio State. ACC Winner ought to outclass Big East Winner. SEC Winner ought to be favored over Big XII winner.

Keep in mind the potential matchups for the Cotton and Capital One Bowls. If Oregon State can beat Arizona and Oregon (which is possible)

Then we more than likely have:

National Title: Oklahoma/Texas Tech Winner vs Florida/Alabama Winner

Fiesta Bowl: Texas vs USC

Cotton Bowl: Georgia vs Oklahoma/Texas Tech Loser

Capital One Bowl: LSU vs Ohio State

That would be fun.

The Orange Bowl has the last at-large pick, so if Utah (or any other outsider) is in a BCS bowl it will be that one.

Sugar will get the 1st pick because they lose the SEC champ, who will presumably be No. 1. Fiesta gets the 2nd because they lose the Big 12 champ, at No. 2. Then Fiesta goes again because they had the first pick to begin with, then Sugar, then Orange. The Rose isn't in the selection because they have the Big Ten/Pac-10 thing.

So what we're looking at is these eligible teams - removing the SEC and Big 12 champs because they'll be in the national title game, and the Big Ten champ and Pac-10 champ because they'll play in the Rose Bowl. I'm also assuming that Missouri won't upset the Big 12 South champ in the Big 12 title game, that PSU will beat MSU, that Ohio State will beat Michigan, that Oregon State will lose one of their remaining two games, and that Utah, Boise, TCU and Ball State all win out.

In that scenario, the Rose Bowl would be USC vs. Penn State. As for the rest of the bowls:

2nd place Big 12 South team (Texas Tech/Oklahoma/Texas)

Ohio State

Utah

Boise State

TCU

Ball State

Big East champ (Cincinnati/Pitt winner)

ACC champ (obligated to Orange Bowl)

Sugar: Will probably pick loser of SEC title game (Alabama/Florida).

Fiesta: Has two picks in a row and will probably take Ohio State and whoever finishes 2nd in the Big 12 South.

Sugar again: Most likely takes the Big East winner to play Alabama/Florida.

Orange: Takes the highest-ranked outsider. According to the BCS, the highest-ranked outsider MUST be taken - there is no discretion for more than one qualifier. In this scenario, it'd be Utah.

So we would see:

Sugar: Alabama/Florida vs Cincy/Pitt

Rose: USC vs Penn State

Fiesta: Ohio State vs Texas/Oklahoma/Texas Tech

Orange: ACC champ vs Utah

If Oregon State does win out and so does USC, USC enters the at-large pool. What is crazy is that, due to auto-bids and the fact that Alabama/Florida and Texas/Oklahoma/Texas Tech could be more favorable due to the region of the bowls they'd be playing in, USC or Ohio State in this scenario would be passed over, unthinkably enough.

The Sugar Bowl has second to last and will (probably) have their choice between the Big East winner - Cincinnati and Utah. With Alabama sitting there, they will probably take Utah over Cinci. If Florida is sitting there, the Urban Utah story is something they can't pass up. I think it will be Utah vs. SEC winner.

Jan. 1 Orange: Maryland (ACC champ) vs. Cincinnati (Big East champ)

Jan. 1 Rose: Penn State (Big Ten champ) vs. USC (Pac-10 champ)

Jan. 2 Sugar: Alabama (BCS at-large) vs. Utah (BCS at-large)

Jan. 5 Fiesta: Texas (BCS at-large) vs. Ohio State (BCS at-large)

Jan. 8 BCS Championship (Miami): Texas Tech (BCS No. 1) vs. Florida (BCS No. 2)

Bowl (Matchup) Mark Schlabach Bruce Feldman

FedEx BCS National Championship Game

(BCS No. 1 vs. BCS No. 2) Texas Tech vs. Florida Texas Tech vs. Florida

Tostitos Fiesta

(BCS vs. BCS) Texas vs. USC Texas vs. Utah

Allstate Sugar

(BCS vs. BCS) Alabama vs. Utah Alabama vs. USC

FedEx Orange

(BCS vs. BCS) Maryland vs. Cincinnati Cincinnati vs. Miami (FL)

Rose Bowl presented by Citi

(BCS vs. BCS) Penn State vs. Oregon State Penn State vs. Oregon State

Note: Fiesta choosing Utah over USC?

That's true, but it's a slight bit more leverage for Texas to hope to keep him around. It may not work, but what have they lost by trying?

Iowa has already secured their first winning season since I've gone to school here. Now I'm getting greedy. 8-4 and a solid bowl game sounds really nice.

it's pretty amusing seeing them try to hype this OSU/UM game here this week. It's going to be a slaughter....huge rallies and special events are unnecessary this time out

I think Texas is tired of losing their D-Coach after 1-2 seasons. How many have they been through this decade already 4-5? I like Muschamp and want him to stay, just not sure about him as a HC though, he is almost too intense.
