Yeah, I made back a decent amount on Pearl Jam(though not nearly as much as I could've)

How did you pull that off? I thought those tickets were not for resale?

???

I'm pretty sure the secondary market on those was HUGE and I was so mad at myself when I forgot to buy some to flip when I was out of town for work.

I almost made more money off of the PJ tickets than I did off of all of the game tickets I sold; such a wretched, wretched season.

I keep reminding myself how profitable a good team will be and that the tickets will eventually pay for themselves while I still get to go to a bunch of games and how awesome that will be.

Yeah, that's basically my mantra at this point. Fortunately it sounds like the other people in on this with me feel the same way. We might, however, downgrade to cheaper seats for next season if things don't look more promising.

If you bought pearl jam tickets through the season ticker holder presale, the fine print said that tickets purchased through the presale could not be resold and you would risk action against your account if caught selling them. Maybe they don't strictly enforce that policy, but i wasn't willing to take the risk.

pshhhh. who reads fine print?

just write it off.

Yeah, I saw it, didn't worry. After this second consecutive abomination, they aren't really in the position to strip the 8,000 (cautious estimate totally pulled from my ass) or so season tickets that were re-sold.

Got this email an hour or so ago...

Thank you for your support of the Chicago Cubs. I had attempted to reach you over the phone today with an exciting update on your season ticket waiting list account; however, I do not have a valid phone number on your account.

Please let me know the best number to reach you at and the best time to give you a call. Or you can call me back anytime at (773) 404-4252

With only a month left in the Cubs 2013 season it is important that we speak as soon as possible. I look forward to talking with you.

Go Cubs!

This time last year i was around 7k in line, I checked about a month ago and I was 3k in line...

When I joined the waiting list I lived in Champaign...too bad I now live in Denver.

Does anyone have experience with selling the entire season ticket plan to someone else? Is there even a market for that?

I would absolutely hate to lose my spot in line, but living in Denver means I could catch 4-5 games a year max.

Update: I just called and received the following info:

When the Trib Company owned the Cubs they held back some 5k seats for their own use. When Ricketts bought the team he opened up all of those seats to season ticket holders. The guy said most were shocked to see their name pop up so soon and many had to pass on the tickets. He also expects 4 concerts at Wrigley next summer. And that the waiting list is now at over 100k.

It's not 100k. I just signed the wife up on Monday to get another spot in line and we were 89331. I'm assuming 10k more people didn't sign up in the last 5 days.

And since the waiting list went down by over 30k last year, there are likely to be less than 70k on the list after this offseason, if not less than 60k.

I'm honestly to the point of wondering whether I should give up my tickets for the impending not try season #3, and assume everyone will be so pissed off that I can get 2015 season tickets despite being at the end of the line.

That just doesn't seem accurate. I signed up several years ago and still am only about 68,000.

I'm sure a ton of people signed up in 2007-09 when we were good. Not as many signed up in 2010 and even fewer the last couple years. The people getting called now (like myself) signed up in 2007. I'm sure there are a ton of people who just don't want them anymore, moved out of the area or (like me) signed up hoping they wouldn't get called any time soon. Plus the Cubs suck so there aren't a ton of people clamoring to get season tickets so they're ripping through the list.

I signed up a second time after the 2011 season and was 118924 and was down to 81433 by midseason this year. If/when the Cubs get good again, tons of people will sign up again and it will take longer to move up the list.

I have made back about 70% of my investment.

Holy Hell, how did you pull that off? I'm impressed/jealous.

I'm not really sure to be honest with you. Stubhub has been my main outlet, but not getting face value for the vast majority of those games. I typically end up pricing them near, or at the lowest price for my section. I have only had three games that I haven't sold. Having said that, some games may sell for 40-50% of combined face value. I try to just tell myself it is better than nothing.

I was in town for one of the games against the Angels and tried selling a few games to the scampers outside by the El. They didn't really want go give me anything, and these were for Cardinals games. One guy offered me $30 total for the Thursday and Sunday game against the Cardinals. They both ended up selling on Stubhub for close to face value.

I have sold a handful of games to some trusting people on Craigslist for face value earlier in the year.

Man, good on you for being able to do that. I've had mine on StubHub as well and the face value usually hovers around $45-$60 each and it's a rare day when I can get $20 each.

I don't have the exact numbers in front of me but I think we recouped about 60-65% of our bleacher seats. Of course we only have the nights & weekends package so that probably helped curb the losses a bunch.

I thought it was a good idea to move to the IF Terrace Reserved from the Bleachers, because I was able to get the middle of a section and Row 12 between the pitchers mound and 1B. Considering just a few rows in front of me costs double, and I have none of the negatives (poles, overhang) of the rows just in front of me, the seats are amazingly priced. This is mainly because if you move 5 seats to the left or right in the same row your seat sucks (dang poles). However, the bleachers appear to sell much better because even though my seats are much, much better than most IF Terrace Reserved seats that is not easily portrayed on StubHub. I made back 43% of my money this year in games that we did not use.

I'm sure when most people walked to their seats they were pretty impressed with what they had just bought...

I'm assuming the Cubs will have the Q&A again this year with Theo, Jed and Len. We need to come up with some good questions as a group and dominate that Q&A. I was the second person in last year. You have to be in there before it starts and as soon as Len tells you how to put yourself in line to ask a question you have to hit the button.

From a non-baseball perspective I want each of them to answer if they ever lurk on message boards not affiliated with the Cubs.

From a baseball perspective I'm sure we can come up with some good ones and it would be really good if we can come up with a few that would make them expand on a previous question that one of us will ask. That's usually the best way to get some real info that they were not planning on sharing.

Anyone know when they'll do the upgrade event for current holders?
Posted

Last year it was right after Thanksgiving.

One question idea would be something along the lines of "In light of the way Castro responded to trying to make him a more patient hitter and the fact that you said the current minor league stud prospects are not the high OBP guys you would ideally build a team around, do you envision the trade market being a major avenue of acquiring impact MLB talent in the near future?"
