Anybody else want to see what he can do over a full season? I think he should either be traded (if Hendry could get true value) or given a full time job. Obviously my first choice would be to get a good LH RF, but if the options are guys like Aubrey Huff and Bobby Abreu I'd rather just slide DeRosa to RF and give Fontenot a full time spot. I just don't see what good RF are available that we could realistically obtain.

I'm just really curious about Fontenot. Is he a .750 OPS guy? .800? .850? It's amazing how the ball comes off his bat. It's not like he came out of nowhere either. He's a former first round pick and he's pretty much performed at all levels.

Let's see what he can do.

The situation at 2B this year, was as close to perfect as it could get. The Cubs got a line of .300/.378/.458 out of 2B this year. I really don't want to mess that up. The best way to improve that is not putting Fontenot there full-time and Derosa in RF full-time. It would probably be to get Ronny Cedeno out of the equation and let Derosa start there vs. all LHPs. Of course, for this to be done, the Cubs probably have to get a pretty solid OF that can play everyday in CF or RF. That means you can put Reed Johnson in whatever spot Fukudome holds next year and keep Derosa at 2B vs. LHPs. There will still be plenty of ABs for Derosa between injuries in the OF and getting him some more time at SS to rest Theriot.

How long would you give him of .700 - .720 OPS before you'd send him back to the bench?

I just can't see him putting up the kind of numbers he put up this year off the bench in a full-time role. There's a reason guys don't just become ML-calibre starters in their late 20s, and a reason why some guys have great success of the bench and not as starters. Starter = way more chance that the league figures you out.

I really dont see him as a superstar. it would be nice if he was a Pedroia, but I dont think it will happen. I fugure at best, he could be a Darrin Erstad in his prime, and at worst, a Todd Walker.

Todd Walker was better than Erstad. Erstad had one quality season.

Plus, Pedroia is going to be a great player. He put up a 123+ OPS with a .376 OBP and .493 SLG, with good defense. He might not have reached his prime, yet.

I'm definitely on the Fontenot for Starter bandwagon. Let him start at second everyday and put DeRosa back as the uber-substitute.

Hopefully more so just RF, considering Fukudome sucks.

Wait, who said anything about him being a superstar? I never said anything about that or Pedroia either.

Also, Todd Walker had a better career than Erstad at the plate.

pedroia already is a great player, he was #3 in the american league in vorp

lol, darin erstad in his prime? you mean that one time he had a fluky year and was good?

well, his first two full seasons were decent, too. It's bizarre that he has managed to stay in the league this long without having an above average offensive season this decade.

NL Scout told me he is suspect with breaking stuff, nice role player off bench, same with Hoff-p.

Would not be as effective full-time. Just one opinion. I want either a Roberts or Furcal and use Theriot or Der Rosa as super ub or trade.

It's obvious that you are unfamiliar with Darin Erstad's punting prowess.

oh lord

someday i'd love to get an explanation for this:

sportswriters mentioning that he was a punter all the time = insufferable

amateur comedians making the same tired stupid jokes endlessly = yuck yuck!
