This one hurts man. It's like Loney again only a week later.

I hate sports.

except im on the other side now!!!

congrats on beating the Bears for the first time in about 20 years..are the Falcons going to do anything this decade?

So you wouldn't squib it with 1 second left on the clock?

No I wouldn't. I would pouch it

I read this, got confused, wondered what else I don't know in football, and finally realized you meant "pooch"

Seriously, shut up.

+1. Seriously.

uh why, this is not a bears message board.

yall would talk the same to me

Ice,

Let me help you out here. While really and technically you aren't breaking any rules, I'd suggest treading lightly. When the Cowboys whooped the Bears hiney 34-10 last year in week three, I tried to stay out of thread as much as I could. Not because it was against the rules, by why piss off half the board that I normally like to discuss baseball with.

It's not against the rules, per se...just common courtesy.

This.

If Cub fans were over on a Braves board whooping it up in the face of a Falcons loss, I'd say the same thing.

It's common courtesy. If you don't want to do it, fine. But people will remember...

ooh terrifying

grow thicker skin, it's a football game and his team won, he's not dancing on your mom's grave.

people will remember. hahaa

Ok Ok, maybe that was a little too far.

When the shoe's on the other foot, I don't see such a thick skin on others either.

Matt Ryan played a great game, i didnt think he had it in him. The Falcons run game was not a threat but Ryan made good decisions and solid throws to carry them. He impressed me today.

My Ron Turner weekly rant. 3rd and 1 on the 1 and they give the ball to McKie. Why is he getting the ball in important situations!? Its not fooling other teams(oh no its McKie, what are we going to do to stop him!). This line is not good enough to blow holes and plow people over for FB dives and play rugby football. 4th and 1 and no change in personel, Turner decides to go 1950 on our ass and run a T formation with Olson as a lead blocker. Again they run a freaking dive up the middle. Why not run Forte wide or offtackle so he at least has options to use his cutback ability, lateral moves and vision. Forte is not TJ Duckett. I dont want to see either of those plays again. There are many reasons the Bears lost this game, so im not blaming this solely on RT.

Hester is looking solid and Orton had another good game.

Id like to see a replay of the squib kick again. At first blush it looked like an awful squib kick from Guild.

It's a weakness of this team that they don't have the up front blocking, and you saw it big time on that goal line possession late.

Has anyone seen Tommie Harris lately? Just askin...

Yeah he recovered that fumble and then randomly fumbled the ball again while trying to get up.

Lovie confirms the squib kick was at least partially a product of the 85-yard return the time before:

“The kickoff before we had kicked it deep and they were able to get a long run,” Smith said. “Guys were a little bit tired. We felt a squib would be safe. We’d get them down and they’d have a chance for maybe one more play."

Yeah, they'd have a chance for one more play. So why do you play your CB up on the damn short route Lovie? Why do you cover the guy who will catch the ball at the 50 instead of covering the guy streaking into FG range?

Gameplans. In-game tactics. We're failing in these areas.

I agree with the squib quick. With 11 seconds on the clock, the Falcons shouldn't have had enough time to get two plays off. The squib prevented the big return and should have only left them with a hail mary.

A squib kick will likely result in a chance for one play that'll need 20-30 yards for a FG. A normal kickoff return will result in much tougher field position plus there's a good chance more time lapses off the clock during a kickoff return.

Provided you can cover the kickoff, which they failed to do the previous kick.

And yet, you're more likely cover the kickoff. Even the Bears.

I didnt like the squib, but that didnt loose us the game. we went to a cover deep zone D and got burned. If Harris was 1 step faster on that last play, Ryan is eating turf. that didnt loose us the game either.

how in the world we can put the falcons into 3rd and long and consistently give up the 1st down is beyond me. babich is horrible. he just cannot adjust to an offense, and in critical times goes straight to the cover 2 regardless of the game situation. I wasnt a fan of Riveria, but Babich isnt any better

I didn't like Rivera but Babich is appreciably worse.

I disagree. By not executing the squib kick, you put the Bears D on the backpedal in that they have to defend the pass, which means the defense get passive and Matt Ryan exploited. Kick the ball deep and trust your coverage team. If the Falcons are going to win it by a field goal make them earn, which the Bears did not make them do. So no, the squib didn't lose the game itself, but it started a series of plays that lead to the winning FG. You simply CANNOT squib the ball when you have a one point lead. This is the case of the Bears playing NOT TO LOSE, instead of PLAYING TO WIN.

I agree. This defense reeks similarily to the Greg Blache D in the senss it's a "bend don't break" defense, and we know this defense plays better and meaner when they "pinned the ears back" and get after the QB. Nonetheless, Babich is very bad, and imo he isn't an NFL caliber DC.

Rivera was one of the guys I wanted to fill the Sherman vacancy after the 2005 season. I thought he was a real good defensive coordinator.

You know, it's funny that it's the D and special teams that were the problem today. I actually find myself having too much trouble criticizing much on the offense. I think Greg Olsen needs to learn to be a bit more physical in pass catching situations...he didn't look like he was fighting too hard on a couple of those endzone tossups. But that's really stretching for something. Orton looks like he could actually solidify the QB position.

Kyle and Ron Turner were saying that the offense should have scored more, and that's noble, but the D couldn't get them on the field. The couldn't sack Matt Ryan one time? I think that had to do more with coverage than anything else though...Ryan was able to throw way too quickly because of poor coverage. Our secondary was shredded...

Tillman and Vasher better get back.

I ain't sayin nuttin

hahaha...look what happens when you jump ship. now, kiss and make up.

seriously, why are people so pissed off at Vanilla Ice? get a grip.

If you're looking for a silver lining, I guess look no further than Kyle. If we wind up an 8-8 team but finally find our QB after 20+ years of searching, it's not a lost season.

Orton's looking like a guy who could actually be that solid QB for the next 10 years. He engineered a game winning drive yesterday that was as good as any we've seen in this town. Nothing rattles him. His accuracy seems to be improving. He's tall in the pocket, and steps up to avoid the edge rush.

I also find it interesting that it *seemed* like we started moving the ball in the 2nd half when Kyle started calling audibles. Yes, I'm going there -- Kyle calls plays better than Turner.

the game wasn't on here so i had to follow on-line, but this was a big point made on the post-game show on comcast. they seemed to imply that the offense was much better when Kyle was calling plays at the line and certainly implied, without outright saying, that he called better plays than Turner. of course this wouldn't surprise me, but i'd like to hear everyone's opinion on that.
