Being as fair as I can possibly be with a stop watch, I come up with about 10.53 seconds to complete those two plays. That's saying that each time the clock was stopped, that would mean that between the two clock stoppages, there must have been a full second for each play.

I did go back and look at the Bears last drive. The clock seemed to be ticking a bit more liberally before the Bears scored. It even appeared as though 2 or 3 seconds ticked off the clock after the time out was called.

With that said, I think it's fair to say that if we were really watching the clock like a hawk, the Falcons deserved a little more than 11 seconds on the clock since time should have been put back on the clock on the Bears drive.

But, we know why the clock was ticking super fast when the Bears were driving now, don't we?

My final summation on this is: As slowly as the official timekeeper was at starting the clock, he seemed just as slow in stopping the clock at the end of the plays (as I was still within 11 seconds on my stopwatch, and that the Bears do NOT have grounds for a protest.

Lovie Smith with a Marty Mornhinwegesque decision.

Lovie needs to be roasted for the "Squib decision."

OK, it was a bad call but nowhere near as bad as Marty Mortingwig or whatever his name is. The worst call I've seen Lovie make is to call a TO with 1 second left in the playoff game vs. Seattle, thinking they would punt to Hester, which obviously all it did was give Seattle 1 play to attempt a game winning hail mary.

Actively rooting against the Bears... didn't I get a vacation for hoping Theriot's average dropped .001 point? Hmm hope he gets the same punishment.

this is not a bears message board.

These are unwritten board rules. Also its just common decency to come into a board dominated by Bears fans after a really painful loss and celebrate. If you want to talk about the game from a Falcons fan perspective, discuss in the Week 6 thread.

ive been here the entire game, and look at the title of the thread. its not the bears thread. its the bears vs. falcons game thread.

Ice,

Let me help you out here. While really and technically you aren't breaking any rules, I'd suggest treading lightly. When the Cowboys whooped the Bears hiney 34-10 last year in week three, I tried to stay out of thread as much as I could. Not because it was against the rules, by why piss off half the board that I normally like to discuss baseball with.

It's not against the rules, per se...just common courtesy.

Can't wait to see next weeks Falcons thread pop up. Also, take note of the bolded.

While he is technically correct, that this is not a "Bears" message board, it is a Chicago message board where the fans are predominately rooting for one team, in this case the Bears.

This.

If Cub fans were over on a Braves board whooping it up in the face of a Falcons loss, I'd say the same thing.

It's common courtesy. If you don't want to do it, fine. But people will remember...

While I think it would be wise for Ice not to openly cheer the Bears loss, I do believe he should have the right.

If we assume that he can't root against the Bears because it's a "Bears thread", could I then start a thread for every Cowboys game and also outlaw rooting against the Cowboys? Could every fan of every NFL team have the same privledge?

Try it and find out.

I think it has to do with 75-80% of the posters on this board being Bears fans that it is given special immunity.

If it were up to me, I would create 2 subforums. The first one being "Other Chicago sports" and the second being "Other sports talk". Let Social be about non-sports discussion, and given us Chicago sports fans the freedom to talk about our other teams so we don't have to pile all discussion into 1 thread, like we do for the Bulls. This is how a lot of other sports forums do it.

It's only a small difference when the teams just played. I do think you should have the right though.

For the record, your comments didnt really bother me one bit Vanilla, but I know that if it was Packers fans celebrating in a Bears/Packers game thread, I'd do everything in my power to get them banned, so I have to stay consistent here :)

Either way, this little back and forth has allowed me to momentarily suspend my suicidal thoughts, so thanks.
