So this might be repetitive, and if it is sorry, but my brother said to me tonight, are you going to be pumped about next year? I will say this, as much as a long shot as it is I'm not giving up on this year, and I truly think we can come back. With all that said, it's true, we actually won 97 games this year. How much better can we do during the regular season next year? It just all comes down to the damn post season and these [expletive] 5 game series. Someone lift my spirits please, please, please lift my spirits. It sucks, if we lose one of these last three, its going to be really hard to be amped up about next year. This will be the worst offseason ever.

Instructions for getting over the Cubs 2008 season: Fill glass. Consume contents. Repeat.

I know they're not out of it yet, but I pretty much felt like the season ended right when Loney's grand slam hit the bleachers yesterday.

You might want to get your hearing checked out. I'm thinking it's not too good.

I've been a Cub fan for over 20 years, and I'll continue to be a Cub fan for however long I'm on this side of the dirt. If they don't make it this year, they don't make it. I'm not a fan because they're winning, I'm a fan. Win or lose. Do I want to see them go all the way? Absolutely. Will I no longer be a fan if they lose? Absolutely not. The world won't end, the sky won't fall, and the oceans won't run dry. War, hunger, homelessness, and every other real world problem will still exist, no matter the Cubs fate. I'll be thrilled if they win, but I'm certainly not going to stop being a fan or hang my head if they lose. They had a fantastic season. We've got the Rookie of the Year, a contender for the Cy Young, and some guys who had career years. If they don't do it this year, then maybe next year. Or the year after that. Or the year after that. I'll be there when it happens. And I know I won't be alone.

GO CUBS! =D> =D>

Next year never comes...

I wont get excited unless they are so hot in September because by the looks of it, if you arent hot then, you aren't winning anything in October, esp in the National League

(Marlins, Rockies, Dodgers etc)

You should. We are toast...

As for next year? I'm worried about the continued declines of Soriano, Ram, and Dlee. We are going to have virtually the same team next year. This same team has choked away two playoff chances and haven't won a playoff game in two years.

Uh, I buy into Soriano and D-Lee, but Rammy?

Like the original poster said, its going to be really hard to get pumped up for the regular season when we accomplished just about everything beyond our wildest dreams this year and then had the mat pulled out from under us.

Then again, I'm saying this in October while heartbroken. I'm sure by mid-March after a brutal winter, I'll be begging for the regular season to begin.

Whoever wrote that vow was probably a Cubs fan.

this is just the way it goes... I live in Denver and was so mad at the way we played in the playoffs last season and then had to watch the rockies sweep their way to the WS... It really made the WS lose its appeal to me.... but after a long offseason there is nothing like opening day to get you back in the baseball mood...

the same damn thing will probably happen this offseason.

but for now, i hate baseball.

2003 and 2004 felt like death.

With both seasons, I was going nuts waiting for news and updates by the time catchers and pitchers reported for the next go-around.

This season certainly isn't going to change that for me.

You mean the continued declines of Lee? Soriano has shown no signs of declining at the plate. He had a typical Soriano year....and for much of the year he was putting up career number (rate wise). Ramirez hasn't declined, he's just different. His numbers were also brought down by 2 ridiculously bad o-fers.
