If someone were to tell you that the cubs were going to go to the world series this year and lose, would you think of this season as lost? Would you be happy? Disappointed? Content?

Edit: I voted no.

Would I be content with the season as a whole? Yes.

Would I be content with the series result? I think that's pretty obvious.

The first thing you said was what I was shooting for.

I'm the one maverick who voted yes so far, but I think the use of the word "content" may be misleading; perhaps "satisfied" would be a better word. I said yes because even a World Series loss would still be the most successful season in my entire lifetime. However, if they make the Series and lose this year, then I'd consider nothing short of a World Series win acceptable for next year.

I went with yes as well. My reasoning is much the same as NCCubfan's. It's hard to see a team do as well as the Cubs did in the regular season and then have their season judged on an 11 game stretch (or less). I'm sure if you went through game-by-game this season you would find stretches of good baseball and bad baseball for 11 games.

That said, this team is too talented to not win it all this year or next so it would be a major dissappointment if they don't do it by the end of next year.

A similar poll was essentially 60/40 back in April.

I'd be really hurt for a couple weeks if the Cubs made it to, then lost a World Series. But by mid-November, I'd be able to look back at this season and really appreciate how great is has been. I'd love to see 3 clinching celebrations this year. 4 would be the ultimate, but 3 wouldn't be bad.

Content for a lifetime, obviously not. Satisfied with the season, absolutely.

Man, the low standards for this franchise are embarrassing at times.

Celebrating back to back .500 seasons was embarrassing. Saying you'd be happy if the team made the World Series is hardly having low expectations.

Would I be more content than in other years, of course. Would I be content with being the best team and losing in the WS, no. I think the best way to put it is since we haven't been to a WS in so long I would be able to live with losing a WS but anything else I'm going to be pissed off all offseason. With a WS lose I'm just annoyed.

I'd be the same way. Obviously I'd be disappointed at first but after some time passes I'd be happy with the season as a whole.

Of course, that assumes the Cubs don't choke away the World Series (i.e. a 2003 or Yankees 2004 collapse).

i can lie and say just getting there would be enough, but I know it would suck to lose

It would suck, but it wouldn't make the entire season a waste. That's my viewpoint, at least.
