Nightmare scenario?

Cubs/Mets get rained out. Most of Mets/Fish get rained out. After the conclusion of Mets/Fish series(played after Sunday), Brewers are a 1/2 game up in the WC over both the Mets and Astros, forcing the Cubs to go to HOU to play one game(good luck I-Cubs), then to NY to play another( good luck I-Cubs). After all that have a 3-way tie for the WC, forcing a playoff, which I have no clue how the scenarios work so...

ex:

Hou plays at MIL, winner goes to NY. Cubs/Phils/Dodgers wait around until they know who they're playing. Start the NLDS on Wednesday( even Bud's not THAT stupid).

I hope to God it doesn't happen, but in a sick twisted way, Bud deserves it.

There's no way anybody would be so stupid to assume that it would be okay to schedule both make up games, Cubs/Astros and Cubs/Mets on Monday, is there? A day night double header type of thing?

I've heard showers around 8-10, and the heavy stuff around midnight.

Out of curiosity...what if the following scenario occurs

Today's game gets rained out and pushed back to Monday if necessary

The Astros sweep the Braves, and the Mets get swept by the Braves. Also the Brewers get swept by the Cubs (and lose against the Pirates tonight), making the standings like this:

Mets --

Astros --

Brewers 0.5

How does the MLB decide which Cubs makeup game gets played first (Astros or Mets)? Do the Astros go first because their game was postponed first?

This and many other games should have been scheduled as day games to begin with. With the need to complete all the late season games, it would make sense that a get away day be scheduled early enough that IF there was a threat of poor weather, the game has a chance to finish that same day. That, plus the potential to schedule 2 on Thursday if one of the previous games got rained out.

MLB needs to think about this stuff when they design schedules.

MLB has really done a poor job planning ahead these past few weeks, haven't they? Obviously with Ike, and now this. Why would they not move this game up to an afternoon game? I just don't get it.

Because Selig is an incompetent commissioner. I really wish they could get someone like the NFL had with Tagliabue. The NFL makes timely decisions, and it also isn't dominated by the big market teams like MLB usually is. The NFL also holds their refs accountable, while it takes an act of God before MLB will do the same with their umps. MLB's fan base is also dwindling compared to the NBA or NFL over the last 10 years. I like baseball better, but even as a baseball homer, I can't help but recognize that the NFL is a far superior product and a better run league when compared to MLB. I don't see how anyone could view Selig's tenure as anything short of a complete and total disaster. Yet, the owners love him. I don't understand.

I know this one. Money. Ticket sales are through the roof, merchandise is as good as its been, and the owners' cup runneth over.

The fans and media get hosed by Selig, but the owners are bathing in profit. He's the Gene Upshaw of the Owners' "Union".

Bud Selig to the press- We'll have to look at all possible options in dealing with this situation, one that benefits all of the teams involved as much as possible.

Bud's brain- We could have the Cubs play in HOU at 10 am, then fly to NY and play at 7:30 pm against the Mets at Shea. Oh, and tell them they have to use all of their regulars in both. Integrity of the game, mention that, integrity of the game. Then the WC playoff can be a day/night double header, first game in MIL, then on to NY. Or better yet, bring the Mets to MIL and play both games there.

More likely than not, there will be a rain out Friday but the Mets will be able to play Saturday and a DH Sunday. I don't think it will be that big of an issue.

On a side note, I heard Timmy Kurkjian talking about how "this is what makes baseball so great". He says this every time there's some odd quirk. How in the world is this what makes baseball so great? Baseball is a great sport, rainouts don't make it better.

I saw this too. Very strange thought process by Timmy. He also kept saying he still likes the Mets to win the WC, his reasoning is because Santana will be pitching the finale on Sunday. Doesn't he realize the Mets have 3 more games before Sunday?
