Someday We'll Go All the Way

by Eddie Vedder

Yeah, don't let them say that it's just a game.

Well, I've seen other teams and it is never the same.

When you go to Chicago, you're blessed and you're healed, The first time you walk into Wrigley Field.

Heroes with pinstripes and heroes in blue, Give us the chance to feel like heroes do.

Whether we'll win and if we should lose, we know Someday we'll go all the way.

Yeah, someday we'll go all the way.

We are one with the Cubs, with the Cubs we're in love.

Hold our heads tall as the underdogs.

We are not fair-weather, but foul-weather fans.

Like brothers in arms, in the suites and the stands.

There's magic in the Ivy and the old scoreboard.

The same one I stared at as a kid keeping score.

In a world full of greed, we could never want more.

Someday we'll go all the way.

Yeah, someday we'll go all the way.

Here's to the men and the legends we've known.

Giving us faith and giving us hope.

United we stand and united we'll fall

Down to our knees the day we win it all.

Yeah Ernie Banks said, "oh, let's play two".

I think he meant two hundred years.

Playing at Wrigley, our diamond, our jewel.

The home of our joy and our fears.

Keeping traditions, and wishes anew,

The place where our grandfathers' fathers they grew.

The spitual feeling if I ever knew.

And when the day comes for that last winning run, and I'm crying and covered with beer.

I look to the sky and know I was right today.

Someday we'll go all the way.

Yeah, someday we'll go all the way.

That link takes you to Eddie's performance at the Auditorium - just awesome, especially the 2nd verse. In a perfect world that would replace Go Cubs Go as the victory song.

there's a link on that page. also, this was posted elsewhere a few weeks back but i don't remember where.

I posted it somewhere.

Here's the link I posted it has video of a live performance (starts with the 2nd verse). http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2008/4/25/460565/eddie-vedder-doing-someday

I can't listen at work, but is the one in the original post a studio version? The live one is awesome, but the quality isn't the best.

There was a post on hirejimessian.com with a better quality recording of the song from Pearl Jam's concert at the Auditorium Theater earlier this year. I believe this was the version that they were playing on the radio because the audio quality is much better and it is about 2 minutes shorter. (there was a good minute before and after the song on the other version with Eddie talking to the crowd) You can download this version here: link Edited by burnt out cubbie fan

It says the file was deleted.

k, they updated the link on the website in the last hour or so and I updated my link. It should work.

Also, I just listened to it again and I'm almost positive that was the one that they played on the radio.

Eh, I like the other version (the 6 minute one) much better. Of course, I've been listening to that one for months now so it's grown on me quite a bit. The problem with that one is the quality sucks, and there's a very extended delay between the first and second verses.

A number of years ago I was living in Indianapolis and was at a Bulls-Pacers playoff game in Indy. Some friends and I went out to smoke a cigarette at half time, and I look up and Eddie Vedder was standing there by himself smoking. No entourage, no guards, no nothing-just hanging out like everyone else. I know hes not exactly the biggest star in the world, but to see him just hanging out minding his own business was pretty cool coming from a rock star. After I realized it was him I really wanted to ask for his autograph, but as no one was bothering him (he was dressed very casually/run-down and I dont think many others even realized it was him) I decided he probably didnt get many "normal" moments and just left him alone. Just seemed like a pretty down-to-earth guy, especially compared to others with half his fame.
