Those were funny times... all the pundits talking about how we were going to struggle the rest of the season on the road-heavy schedule.

It never feels like that when you're going through it. I guess you worry they're gonna lose every game whereas in reality they've been doing alright.

Did you also realize that with 14 games remaining, the Cubs have scored 790 runs, which would be their most in a full season since 1998 (831 runs) Before 1998, the last time the Cubs scored more than 790 runs was 1970!

They are on pace to finish the season with 865 runs, which would be their most runs in a season since 1930! (Where we scored 998 runs in 154 games in a completely different era)

Fred where do you get all of your sortable stats from?

That's all him. Guy works his butt off for our entertainment.

Most likely we'll play one fewer game as well.

lol, oh wow I didnt even know you were a mod. Just have seen you posting there for awhile, Ive been around since like February of the year Scheyer committed to Duke. I think I led to a string of recruiting losses because right after that was Brandon Rush.. and well the list need not go on.

At the time it was a legitimate concern. The Cubs were horrible on the road until they rattled off that hot streak.

In a game where home field advantage wouldn't seem to mean that much in terms of crowd noise, like football and basketball where it can make a difference, it doesn't really surprise me that the Cubs turned the road record around.

Actually, baseball is a sport where home field advantage makes a noticeable difference in the game, stemming from the home team batting last. In football and basketball it's much more of a minimal difference.

So, for situations like the last Astro series, the games could've been played in Wrigley with the Astros batting last, and they'd have more of a home field advantage than the Cubs.

What's the difference between home and road winning percentages in those leagues?

Without actually looking at statistics, I think it would be hard to guess which sport (between football, baseball and basketball) as a biggest HFA.

Baseball probably has the least variation, but I believe that to be because over the long grind of a baseball season, these things tend to even out at least a tiny bit.

The biggest difference in winning percentage is in the NBA, where I'm of the opinion that the officiating makes the majority of the difference.

All I was saying is that baseball is the only major sport where home field advantage actually makes a difference in the way the game is played.
