I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but Zambrano's Game score of 96 last night is the 2nd best game score in baseball since 2004. Only Bedard's 98 last season is better.

The Cubs better win the World Series before they tear down Wrigley. If they ever move out of there, it might just cause me to stop caring.

Seriously?

Yes, seriously. The Cubs without Wrigley Field just wouldn't be the Cubs to me.

Wow.

Even more puzzling about this is the fact that you don't even live anywhere near Chicago...

Even if you did, though, I still wouldn't get it.

I was born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, so I have spent many a day at Wrigley. Personally, I don't understand how anyone could not love Wrigley that much. It is legendary, a baseball icon. I'm not even a Red Sox fan but I would be pissed if they tore down Fenway. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I like the history of great old ballparks like these. It's more than just a game to me. Would you be OK if they took away the pinstripes? Or changed their colors to green or orange? There are some things that should not be messed with.

Ironically, I would love it if they did that (and I've made it known on here a few times lol), and I don't see how it would be such a huge affront to tradition if they did.

It would be more of a throw-back if they went pinstripe-less, if anything.

Either way, I can understand an attachment to the park. I don't understand that attachment having a higher priority than an attachment to the team. Plus there's just the reality of the fact that they can't play in a building from the 1910's forever. I like Wrigley, but I would like a new stadium a lot, too.

Was Zambrano that dominant?

"No," manager Cecil Cooper said "It was a long travel day and Hurricane Ike. And having two days off. Not saying he wasn't good, but this was a pretty tough circumstance."

He only has his own team's owner to blame for that. If they had accepted the inevitable and made plans to move the series earlier they wouldn't have been so weary and they could have gotten the entire three games in.

i thought that hill had a 97 in 06.

He had a 92 according to ESPN.

I, of course, happened to be traveling yestaurday, flying home from visiting friends in Peoria, so the last time I check the game before getting on the plane in O'Hare was around 9 central time and saw that the Cubs were up 5-0.

So, of course, I miss Z throwing a no-hitter.

yeah, i like wrigley and all, but it's totally overrated. if the cubs built an open-air stadium with a retractable roof in the vein of a safeco field, i would't be at all upset.

What has changed? I was on here 3 years ago saying a new stadium wouldn't be bad and was thoroughly and completely lambasted for it by pretty much everyone on the board.

i don't remember lambasting you, but if i did, it was probably hilarious.

Maybe you were suggesting one of those horrible suburban ballparks. I could live with no Wrigley. I would not be able to stand for a field in the suburbs where everybody has to drive miles to attend and park in some shopping mall lot and the local hangouts are an Outback Steakhouse and Chotsky's.

i was goingto add that the field must be urban, and not karl urban.

I forgot to look, but doesn't comcast have all cubs games on demand (channel 999?)? Although because this wasn't a regularly scheduled game they might not have this one up. Anyone at home with comcast care to check?

I doubt that. There are plenty of us that would be ok with or even in favor of a new park. There's also a huge vocal segment that would be fiercely against it. I'm honestly not sure who makes up the majority, though.

I dunno about a retractable roof though. I guess it can't hurt to have one, but it makes stadiums look more like monstrosities. I would love to have something that looks anything like my favorite ballpark (on TV, still haven't been there), which is SF's.

Wouldn't it be possible to just tear down and rebuild the grandstand? The bleachers are new, so you could leave that. Seems like they could do a lot with a rebuild, perhaps add seats, suites, etc. And I would think they could do it relatively quickly.

as i sad, safeco is a nice blueprint. it doesn't have the giant beetle-look like miller, and it's not a closed system. all the roof does it keep the rain off. although it may do odd things to the wind.

A lot of the problem is with the inner workings of the stadium. It would be possible to "fix" Wrigley but it might be more cost efficient to build a new one. Plus "relatively quickly" would be at least one lost season.

My wife won one of those Cardwell-Hooton-Pappas autographed baseballs last year at Wrigley (that game was against the 'stros). Now the thing is worthless -- guess she'll have to throw the thing out. Oh, well.

Was anyone else having visions of Wood's 20K game against the same Astros, thinking "if you f*ers even think about trying a cheap ass bunt against Z..."

Maybe just no one came to my defense at the time. Thanks! 8-)

I did have that thought when Erstad came up. Then I thought, "nah, they wouldn't do that."

I actually never thought they would try it, because of the 5 run lead.

It would have been pure entertainment to hear Brenly if they did that. He really went off on someone when he was a manager for doing it (can't remember who).

Ryan Braun:

"They're probably drinking champagne and having in a beer shower right now in our locker room while we sulk about what happened here," said Braun. "It's ironic, where we're at as a team and how we feel at the end of this series and see them celebrating a no-hitter on our field.

"The way things are going, it doesn't surprise me. It's almost fitting."

Wow. Is that outright resignation from Braun? You're still tied for the WC lead Ryan.
