I know Lou has put Fukudome on the back burner lately, but has he made any mention to what the plans are for him for the rest of the month or even into the playoffs?

Hoffpauir is seemingly getting the chance to replace him quasi-permanently. If Hoffpauir hits, Fukudome could be turning into a defensive replacement for the rest of this season. If Edmonds struggles, I'd still like Kosuke to get starts in CF against RHP.

If Hoffpuir doesn't do anything Fukudome will probably get another chance in RF.

Why is everyone so eager to throw dirt on Edmonds? He's been the best hitter on the team, and people are still trying to replace him.

Because he's had a low BA and people still don't know how to look past that.

who's throwing dirt on him? i said IF Edmonds struggles. i don't think it's a foregone conclusion that he won't.

But Fukudome HAS struggled. Why would you replace Edmonds because of a 2 week slump with a guy who's slumped the last 3 months.

Fair enough. I admit I'm still leary about Edmonds because of age and his struggles last year through May '08.

Regardless, I think Fukudome's fate (for 2008) rests at the hands of Hoffpauir.

Perhaps the bigger question is what to do with Fukudome for the next 3 years?

Do you feel comfortable with him as the starting RF going into 2009? Is there any precedent for a Japanese player returning home and perhaps a payment back to the MLB team (contract buyout)?

I think it's a bit premature to write him off this early. Let's see if he can adjust next year.

I think Kosuke will be better next year, since I really think most of this is in his head. It seems to me that he started trying to hit for more power, which changed his approach. The caused him to struggle more, which only made things worse. It seems like he became significantly less selective, which was what made him so good in April/May. At this point, I think he has lost track of himself.

I think he just needs to get some distance and clear his head, and it may well take the offseason to do it.

Having said that, I am not entirely surprised at the way this season has gone for him.

I like the theory that he will be important for the playoffs. Doesn't that seem to happen every year? The guy who struggles or who has had limited playing time gets a huge hit in the playoffs?

I have these visions that he's going to be an important part of the playoffs. Just a hunch.

Fukuslam to win the world series with cubs down three in game 7.

Fukudome doesn't have much leverage to deny playing CF next year full time if he keeps playing the way he has.

I really doubt he ever did. He's played CF a fair few times this year and didn't say anything.

I think he is homesick....I dont think time is going to help him. I think he has learned that money isnt everything and he just wants to go home.

Hope Im wrong.
