Let's shoot off fireworks to celebrate being within 8 games of first place!

Seriously... that crap is obnoxious and lots of stadiums do it.

And people complain about "Go Cubs, Go"

If you had a stadium from this century instead of that dump, you would have fireworks and alot of other things that you don't have now.

Hey dude, when was the last time the Brewers were in the playoffs?

I still don't get why you don't walk Izturis. I'd have done it even if Pujols was on deck.

Cause it's Izturis. You expect him to ground out or pop out to shallow right. You can't expect him get a check swing slow rolling game winning hit.

My major problem in the 9th was why Marmol kept going with the slider to Lopez... he was out in front every time; had he put it in play, the runner easily moves over to third. He walked him so it's moot, but still.

A ground out is bad. It requires Soto to catch it cleanly AND tag the runner. You load the bases for the force at home AND set up the double play.

And amazingly, it wasn't even the worst managerial decision Lou made in the game.

For Schumacker, a good hitter who runs pretty well? Disagree completely.

Yes, go for the force at home if you aren't sure about the DP.

Hey thanks man, we needed something to make us feel better about ourselves.

Relax everybody....we're just getting all the ugly losses out of the way now, so once we hit the playoffs we're going on a long winning streak. We're too good not to turn this around.

I'm sure they said that in '69. And in '84. And I remember how there was no possible way we'd lose both Games 6 and 7 at home with Prior and Wood starting.

It's the Cubs. If there's a way to screw it up, they'll find it.

The Cubs don't screw up any more than any other team, for Christ's sake.

This losing stuff sucks, but give me a break, every single team around for any length of time has epic choke jobs in their history. I hate the "It's the Cubs" crap and would die happy if I never heard it again.

Name me one other team, just one, that has blown it as many times as the Cubs have since 1969.

I count 4: 69, 84, 2003, 2004.

Oh and before you use the bandwagon "100 years" comment... How many WS have the Brewers won? I'll give you a hint... I can count them on ZERO hands.

So will the overly-optimistic people finally stop with the "it's just a slump" garbage? This is not just a sump anymore. This team is clearly feeling the pressure and they clearly are not handling it well. The offense has been pathetic and now the back end of the bullpen is choking.

Yeah we'll probably still make the playoffs, but if they don't turn it around before then, will it really matter? If they can't handle the pressure of facing non-playoff teams in early September, how are they going to handle the pressure of the playoffs?

I'm not sure what you're arguing.

You think this team is going to play at a .200 clip or something from here on out? It is a slump. It's not overly optimistic to say that a team that has won 60% of its games is in a slump when it loses 8 out of 9 or whatever we're at. Do you honestly think pressure is taking them from being a .600 team to a .111 team or whatever?

FWIW, we can probably chalk one or two of these losses to poor management. Howry vs. the Astros and tonight's game immediately spring to mind.

All I know is that if the Cubs don't win it all, I'm giving up baseball.

THis is pathetic, and Im getting tired of all the Sox, Milwaukee DUI's and Tard trolls on the other message boards -- and in my own family.

The double plays are killing us. Do we lead the league in them? It sure feels like it

If I am reading this right, the Cubs are actually middle of the pact in hitting into double plays. What seems to be the cause of the frustration, isn't the DP itself, it's when the DPs are hit. It seems lately that ALL the DPs the Cubs hit into are in crucial situations. And this crap needs to stop, NOW.

Those are awfully high expectations and something I wouldn't have said even if they had finished with 105 wins or something.

Gotta love big wieners running around the stadium too... Must only be possible in those modern stadiums. Dumb

Maybe if they don't make the playoffs I'd consider quitting the team. Who am I kidding this team is like Heroin. They keep killing me but I keep coming back even though there is no reward.

Completely.

Go on, prove your point. Prove to me that history doesn't prove me right.

Sorry, I can't go looking through 40 years of data to find teams with 4 or more seasons you may or may not subjectively define as choke jobs. Edited by David
