I still don't get why you don't walk Izturis. I'd have done it even if Pujols was on deck.

Cause it's Izturis. You expect him to ground out or pop out to shallow right. You can't expect him get a check swing slow rolling game winning hit.

My major problem in the 9th was why Marmol kept going with the slider to Lopez... he was out in front every time; had he put it in play, the runner easily moves over to third. He walked him so it's moot, but still.

A ground out is bad. It requires Soto to catch it cleanly AND tag the runner. You load the bases for the force at home AND set up the double play.

And amazingly, it wasn't even the worst managerial decision Lou made in the game.

I'm still not worried about making the playoffs, but I'm still pissed about the way we've been playing. It's pathetic!

For Schumacker, a good hitter who runs pretty well? Disagree completely.

I still have hope because we are still getting base runners and Harden and Z have barely pitched during this stretch and when they have they haven't been healthy.

That being said I wish I could turn away until they start playing well or until the season ends.

Relax everybody....we're just getting all the ugly losses out of the way now, so once we hit the playoffs we're going on a long winning streak. We're too good not to turn this around.

I'm sure they said that in '69. And in '84. And I remember how there was no possible way we'd lose both Games 6 and 7 at home with Prior and Wood starting.

It's the Cubs. If there's a way to screw it up, they'll find it.

The Cubs don't screw up any more than any other team, for Christ's sake.

This losing stuff sucks, but give me a break, every single team around for any length of time has epic choke jobs in their history. I hate the "It's the Cubs" crap and would die happy if I never heard it again.

whatever the case, we had the chance to score more runs and we didn't...

Yes. And Dempster grooving a first pitch fastball down the middle to Pujols. Tons of mistakes, between the pitchers, the defense, the hitters and the managers.

Of course.

I hate the Cubs. Really, truly hate them.

You can't tell me you're not worried now. You just can't.

We'll make the playoffs. I just can't see how we'll win when we get there.

Well, there is no way that we can win with this offense. This reminds me so much of the playoffs last year.

The same offense that was one of the best (actually THE best) for most of the season? They've played poorly the past month or so. Who knows what offense will show up in the playoffs? Maybe they get hot and ride it to the WS or maybe they suck and get swept.

And how different is the offense in reality from last year's playoff team? I don't understand why it is so hard to believe that this offense is capable of going in the can as they are now. You look back to last year over the last couple of months and the offense was somewhat similar to now, only we just aren't winning them now. Last year a lot of those games that we won, I was feeling queazy about and now we just don't get the breaks that allow us to win these games. Every game at this point is going to become must win soon and sadly I am already feeling that way. I say this somewhat fecetiously of course

We need a frakking spark, and we need it now.

I believe Michael Wilborn said he felt when the Cubs beat the Phillies on Sori' homerun, that losing streak started because the Cubs felt complacent. Well guess Cubs, you no lnonger have a comfortable lead, so they need to pull their collective heads out of their butts, or this will be either a epic failure of a choke job, or a early rd exit in the playoffs.

You're going to die a very miserable man, then.

I admit I too am very frustrated by this loss, but I'm still not worried about the season. World Series winning teams have had histories of suicide inducing Septembers.

The last two games with runners on 2nd and 3rd he's failed to put a runner on 1st to set up either the force or the DP.. Stupid, just stupid.

Let's shoot off fireworks to celebrate being within 8 games of first place!

Seriously... that crap is obnoxious and lots of stadiums do it.

And people complain about "Go Cubs, Go"

If you had a stadium from this century instead of that dump, you would have fireworks and alot of other things that you don't have now.

So will the overly-optimistic people finally stop with the "it's just a slump" garbage? This is not just a sump anymore. This team is clearly feeling the pressure and they clearly are not handling it well. The offense has been pathetic and now the back end of the bullpen is choking.

Yeah we'll probably still make the playoffs, but if they don't turn it around before then, will it really matter? If they can't handle the pressure of facing non-playoff teams in early September, how are they going to handle the pressure of the playoffs?

Ha, wow.

Bye.

Last year at the end of August beginning of September the Cubs didn't play that well. Than they hit September 10th and started winning. Do that this year too.
