They always talk about on the morning radio show how USC and the Rose Bowl being in a horrible part of LA, practically in Watts. Is this true?

You mean the Coliseum, not the Rose Bowl. USC and the Coliseum are at the very northern edge of South Central LA, one of the worst neighborhoods in the U.S. They're about 5 miles from Watts.

The Rose Bowl is in a very affluent neighborhood in northwestern Pasadena.

Yes this. I think they talk about it once a week on the Lex and Terry show. I just always pictured USC being in a very nice area even though I knew about it.

If USC remains the same as I remember it when I lived in LA, the campus itself is indeed very nice. But it's like a walled-off facility. Pretty strong security at the gates.

UCLA, on the other hand, is open, in a very exclusive area (Westwood....close to Beverly Hills), and is absolutely beautiful.

It used to be a good neighborhood until the 1950s. Pepperdine was also nearby and moved to Malibu after the Watts Riots and other tensions from the Civil Rights Movement. USC tried to move around 1970 but Sacramento put their foot down and told them to stay.

What can I say, Soul? Your memory is impeccable, you remember correctly.

The first few minutes of Notre Dame/Michigan was like a dream sequence. It was about time Michigan looked horrible and dug themselves an insurmountable hole early in a game in this series after we did it three of the previous five years.

That said, MSU and Purdue are the next two games, and both of those teams are better than Michigan (so far anyway). If we can split those two games I'll feel good about an 8-win season.

Golden Tate is going to be a star.

Also: Ball State goes 3-0 by beating Akron 41-24. Big game at IU next week could decide if we go into Central Michigan unbeaten in mid-November.

Cool. You can never tell. The 1990's are almost ancient history now :)

I thought they changed it to South LA, to escape the rep.

Oh yeah. It'll always be South Central to me (and Ice Cube).

Hah, even Wikipedia has it:

Though the city took it upon itself to change street signs and freeway signs with the new name to make it "official", and though media like the Los Angeles Times and L.A. news networks now refer to the area as South Los Angeles, the name is not very widely used. Most residents of the Los Angeles area (including residents of South Los Angeles) still use the old name. Prominent figures from South Los Angeles, such as Ice Cube, also continue to refer to the area as South Central Los Angeles.

What's there to challenge? That's as much of a fumble as any there has ever been in the history of all football.

Oh.

My.

God.

Complete and total rip off. Payoff-level officiating.

Just simply the worst call in the history of football. There should be an investigation.

I wouldn't quite go that far, but the call was atrocious.

I can't think of one ever that was worse. Seriously.

I agree. The replay guy is still a WAC person even if the on field officials are from the BigTen, right?

What a joke.

I do believe one day there's going to be some kind of massive point-shaving scandal uncovered in college football. I've seen way too many of these......."home"....calls. Just my opinion.

Anyone remember that "home clock" deal in Lansing? That's a real good example. Total B.S., nothing done about it.

Oregon vs Oklahoma in Eugene.

Isn't there a new rule in college football? It's no longer "a football move."

Now you have to take two steps for the catch to be complete. Or is that just the NFL?
