Hear me out here. Since Sori's return, the Cubs have gone 18-6 and scored 6.4 runs per game. When he was out, the Cubs went 16-18 and scored a mere 4.4 runs per game.

If you project his numbers for a whole season, they would equate to about 48 HR and 130RBI.

Those are sick numbers. Not only that, these are numbers from a leadoff hitter.

Soriano=MVP!

So that 16-18 stretch has nothing to do with the fact that besides Soriano being out, Zambrano missed 2 starts, Wood was on the DL for 3 weeks, Reed Johnson was on the DL for 2 weeks, Edmonds was off and on banged up, Marmol completely lost effectiveness, and all this occurred during a stretch where we played 26 road games and only 15 home games?

Feel free to compare that to a stretch where we were relatively healthy except Soriano with a much more favorable schedule in April where we went 9-5 without him.

none of this supports the idea that he must be the MVP.

Have you seen the Cubs with and without him? Again, he is a leadoff hitter putting up these numbers.

Would it matter if he was putting up the same numbers hitting cleanup?

Yes, and who cares? If Lou decided to put him in the 5 spot and he put up the same numbers, would he be less of a candidate for MVP? If Houston decided Berkman should leadoff games, would that make him a better candidate for MVP?

What a team does over the first 24 games a player returns from injury is a completely meaningless bit of trivia that has absolutely nothing to do with MVP voting.

Obviously they won't look to project out numbers when voting for the MVP, but these are stupid numbers to put up from the leadoff spot.

They are beyond ridiculous. That said, take the numbers away and look at the record of the team. The Cubs are something like 26-28 this year when he was injured. They are a crazy 50-20 when he is in the lineup leading off.

Len and Bob, if you are lurking, start the train rolling for Sori tonight on the air.

50-20 with him, 26-28 without him. Jut saying.

Same could be said about Ryan Braun for the Brewers.

Not really. He's missed a week.

Its niot that, its without him, the offense isnt any better than the Reds. The only reason they made it through his absence was that they played the Nationals and Padres.

That doesn't really address the point I was making. Are the Cubs better with Alfonso Soriano in the lineup? Of course. Yours is not a black and white argument that can be universally defended with one statistic though.

Something tells me BB won't be rolling the Soriano for MVP train anytime soon.

Just look at the record for the entire year with and without him.

Answer yes or no, please.

If the Cubs played the entire season without Soriano, would they finish 81-81?

it depends... does anyone play lf, or are the cubs just fielding a team with 8 players and nobody in lf?

85 win team at best.

How many games do the Cardinals win without Pujols?

.500 team. What does that have to do with anything?

Soriano is our MVP this year and we are the best team that should give him some MVP consideration (pitchers aren't really taken into MVP consideration so I'm not including our itchers in what I say).

Well, we're talking about the MOST valuable player, and you seem to equate value with how many wins a team gets without their best player.

I was just comparing your assessment of Soriano's impact with your assessment of Pujols'

Which has nothing to do with this years Cubs team. The numbers (team wise) do not lie when it comes to Sori's impact and value with THIS Cubs team.

Add to that the numbers he is putting up personally and there is no doubt he should get strong consideration. If the numbers were projected over 162 games, he'd shatter anything ever put up from the leadoff spot.
