Molina dumb decision to load them, then he drops the ball and a run scores.

Not a good inning for Yada.

why aren't we rooting for the Cardinals to win and gain on the Brewers?

Because both teams losing is better?

Cardinals winning the wild card is best. Yeah, it won't happen cause they're not very good, but a man can hope.

Only 2.5 out.

That could turn into a double-edged sword.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Cardinals win the WC either (easier route for Cubs to the WS if play them in the NLCS), but I'm not gonna root for it at the expense of the Cubs' own division & HFA-clinching aspirations. We still got 6 games coming up vs them in Sept.

The Cardinals are 10 games behind us in the loss column. We can finish a game below 500 the rest of the way(18-19) and the Cards need to go 25-10 just to tie us. If we close at our current pace(we'll round down and say 22-15) the Cardinals need to go 29-6 just to tie. The Cardinals have as much chance at catching us as the Astros do.

Umm, I was talking Wild Card. I KNOW that St Louis has very little chance - if any - of catching us [unless we inexplicably choke even harder than the 2007 Mets], but between MIL/StL/PHI/FLA (& AZ if LAD wins West), I'd rather see StL come out of that pack as the 4th playoff team.

And even so, if its during the last series vs them (9/19-21 @ Wrigley) and it means the Cards winning the WC spot or us clinching the division & HFA sooner, I'll root for the Cubs first hands down.

You did say that you didn't want to root for the Cardinals "at the expense of the Cubs' own division & HFA clinching aspirations." And then pointed out that we have 6 games left with them. That would seem to imply to the reader that you think the Cards do have a chance of catching us for the division. That's what SSR was replying to...

Well, while I get the taste of shoe out of my mouth, I'll explain that what I said and what I meant to say were not one and the same.

Teams I am rooting for in the NL:

Dodgers

Phillies

Cards

Teams I am rooting against in the NL:

Brewers

Diamondbacks

AL:

For:

Twins

White Sox

Against:

Red Sox

While the Red Sox have been putting up runs in bunches at times, theres just something not that frightening about them this year.

The question is, are you rooting against the Red Sox because they're a more dangerous potential World Series opponent for the Cubs, or simply because you're just sick of the Red Sox "Nation"?

That red dot in the Cubs rear mirror that was the Cards is starting to fade, I still believe, when all is said and done, they won't come within 8-10 games of a playoff spot.

Ping has other reasons to root against the Red Sox.

It's true, the Cards winning the WC would be best. I just can't bring myself to root for them. I can't do it.

Besides, let's keep the Cards at 10 back, get the Brewers to 10 back, then have the Cards win the WC by a game over the Brewers late in the season by backing into it --- both around 10 back!

As you can tell, I rather like the idea of "10 back" :)

I'm rooting for TB, Minn. and the White Sox are inferior to Boston, I can't stand that Red Sox team.

You think they are going to play at least 5.5-7.5 games worse than the Brewers over the next 38 games?

With that bullpen and no Carpenter? Yes.
