08-09' Blackhawks (46-24-12) 104 PTS - 4th Seed In The West!

Posted

FYI for folks in and around St. Louis. Blues single-game tickets go on sale Saturday, but there is a presale. I'm snapping up a pair for all the Hawks games. On Ticketmaster the presale password is "48HOUR." No quotes, no period, of course.

Might go catch a few more games as well. Toronto and Pitt are coming in, to name a few.

For all you Jeaneratte haters... I LOVE this call:

- Maxim Afinogenov game winning goal Sabres/Rangers Game 5.

He may not have the PERFECT voice... but neither did Harry Caray and neither does Ron Santo...

If you didn't become a believer from that call on Jeanerette's calls then watch the following:

Rick Jeaneratte's top 10 calls:

I really, really enjoyed those.

Well all you Cubs fans got a taste of Brian Campbell yesterday :) He was the Murton look alike doing the 7th inning stretch.

He is also the one I linked on the first page who put R.J. Umberger into a seizure.

He's also the guy that threw the first pitch about 50 feet to the left of home plate. That was embarrassing.

His hockey play can't be much worse than that.

Yeah that was pretty embarassing.

When Len asked him if anyone mistook him for Matt Murton, it was clear he had no idea who Murton is. Not that he necessarily should or would.

Based on him throwing a baseball, he might not know who Babe Ruth is.

I love Brian Campbell and his brand of defense - I'd guess that it will do a lot to boost the Blackhawks to the next level. That said, I'm in Peoria, so a few former Rivermen have ended up with the Blues, and ultimately I've been a wings fan for years, so guess that makes me apathetic hockey fan (or perhaps spread-too-thin!)

Anyway, am anxious to be in Phoenix toward the end of October - hoping much to catch the Caps when there, as it's not hard or expensive to get Coyotes tix and it's an excuse to see Ovechkin.

Oh, and someone mentioned that they were hoping to get a chance to see the wings / hawks game on New Years Day. According to the tour guide we had at Wrigley 6 weeks ago, he said that it will be *very* unlikely that tickets to the general public will go on sale at all - the hawks season ticket holders get first crack, followed by cub season ticket holders, followed by NHL and sponsors, etc...meaning it will be highly unlikely to get tix unless you know someone. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Are we doing a fantasy hockey league this year? I'm not tired of kicking butts yet ;-) Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I did stay on topic for 1/2 the post!

Not a problem! Thanks for participating!

We should DEF do a Fantasy league this year...

no problem - I'll make a post in the Fantasy discussion forum to see if we have enough people interested. Sounds like we have 3 interested from this thread - would say we'd need at least 8 teams...we'll see what happens

Anze, not sure if it's possible to "renew" the league from last year and pass it over to me or if it's just easier to start over from scratch - either way is OK with me.

I think I might try out PBP for the Hawks games as well when they start, see what kind of response we get... maybe even might get some people to watch a couple games :)

i think you should just restart from scratch. we only had what, 6 people in the league last year? maybe you can get more this year.

Here's the latest from Kuc's blog.

I understand trading Lang for financial reasons. But if (when) Havlat goes down I fear the team could be offensively challenged again. Which is why it makes no sense to have nearly a quarter of your cap used up by effing goaltenders.

But Tallon is still going to shop Khabi and ship him off when the first contender's goalie gets hurt, right?

Agreed. *sigh* Another season where we feel like we have a promising young team but we're short at center. I'm feeling less confident we make the playoffs now.

Rozner wrote something different:

It's no secret around the NHL that the Blackhawks have been trying to trick someone into taking Robert Lang, Martin Havlat and Nikolai Khabibulin, so kudos to GM Dale Tallon for moving Lang and even getting a draft pick in return.

Lang was no small headache for coach Denis Savard, as Lang, Havlat and David Koci - the group known as the Czech Republic - were often seen partitioned in the dressing room, speaking in their native tongue.

If the Hawks are stuck with Havlat, at least without Lang - another veteran who didn't care to play in his own end of the ice - Havlat may have to be part of the team this year.

Rozner doesn't like the non-english speakers.

Count me in, attended games in the Chicago Stadium - boy, did that place rock, the cheer as it built to a foundation shaking roar towards the end of the National Anthem. Grew up listening to Pat Foley, Sunday nights, Bannerman!!!!!!!! They Score!!!!!!! Larmer!!!!!! Edited by gflore34

Okay, so apparently Tallon doesn't care about, uh, scoring goals. I get that we don't want one-dimensional forwards, but we have a pretty solid defensive group.

As for the little Czech mob in the locker room, interesting insight, and definitely the first I've read of those three guys being a "problem." If you want to call it that.

Lang has always been a problem. Havlat I've heard mixed reports on. Khabibulin I also know has had issues in the past. I don't think this is really a big shock though. I know Rozner kinda sucks but I don't think getting rid of Lang is a bad thing really.

The only thing I recall hearing at Havlat is that he's a nancy.

Obviously, the best result would be to dump Khabi and pick up a decent center. News flash, I know. But I never thought they would be in this cap situation because of the goalies.

I like Lang a lot and he's going to do another team a lot of good. Getting the draft pick is a huge plus because it's not like the Hawks are going to win the Cup THIS YEAR.

Khabi won't be on the team next year and I think we might have some extra cap room to sign a better center? I haven't looked at the payroll much.

I'm pretty sure they were $1.5M over and Lang was set to make $4M. So that doesn't leave a lot of room. That's why I say the most likely scenario is a trade involving Khabi.
