08-09' Blackhawks (46-24-12) 104 PTS - 4th Seed In The West!

There's no question the talent is there this year to be a top team in the West.

I strongly disagree with this. I think the talent is there for them to make the playoffs in the West. They are not a top team though.

In the West? I really think they should be a top 4 team in the conference.

the wings, sharks, and stars (despite turco's cold start) are clearly the class of the conference. after that you have anaheim and calgary. finally you have vancouver, edmonton, phoenix, chicago, and maybe nashville in the same boat. i don't think they're definitively a top 4 team in the conference, i'm not even convinced they're a playoff team yet. this is a team that missed the playoffs last year, and they made one upgrade in campbell. i like huet and he's a safer bet than khabi, but khabi was actually decent last year. the step up to huet isn't huge. a lot of their success is predicated on the development of their young players (and the health of their veterans). while it's likely that this will happen, it's not set in stone and they're certainly not the 4th best team in the west atm.

Let's take a positive view of Quenneville. He was the coach of some pretty competitive Blues teams in the '99 - '02 range. Let's see if he can bring that to Chicago.

His time in Colorado was after Forsberg & Foote were let go. It wasn't like he was taking the former powerhouse Avs and tanking them. They were already on more shaky ground then they had been. The Blackhawks' situation is completely different.

I, for one, already am. I don't know a lot about him, but I do see him as being somebody who is more qualified for the job. I'm not upset that Savard is gone, just confused about how it went down.

The Blues were a pretty talented team in the late 90s early 00s. If I remember correctly only made the WCFs once and never the Stanley Cup finals. If memory serves me, I think most Blues fans were happy he left. From a non fan looking in, I always thought he was a solid coach.

Fans are usually happy when their coach leaves, whether the blame really lies with him or not. I don't think that necessarily says Quenneville isn't a good coach.

I'm trying to give a little latitude here. We've got this guy for better or for worse. May as well try to find the positives until they are proven wrong.

i don't think much of Nashville at all; they'll have good play from their D men as always but shaky goaltending and an impossible time putting the puck in the net. that's not even to mention the distraction of the Radulov debacle

the Oilers, Coyotes and Kings are the teams i'm most interested in seeing this year for the development of their younger players, aside from NY of course

i don't like nashville either, but i thought they would be horrid last year and they ended up in the playoffs. so much like the islanders with ted nolan (what a stupid firing), i'm not counting them out.

OK, in case you haven't heard, Kane is good. He just blew through 3 Blues players to get a shot on goal single handedly. That was damn close to a tip back goal too. Not a cheap shot.
