08-09' Blackhawks (46-24-12) 104 PTS - 4th Seed In The West!

Posted (edited)

Sounds lik the Hawks picked up Dominic Moore (Tor?) for perhaps a 2nd and a 4th rd pick. What I know is this is a decent pick up for the Hawks.

Edit: Nevermind.

Wisniewski and a pick to the Ducks for Sami Pahlsson.

Hawks are supposedly also giving up Kontiola in the deal. All for a guy who hasn't played in what........4 weeks because of mono.

I hate to say it, but this was a desaparation move by Tallon.

good, bad, or blah?

After what RedFlash just said it makes it even worse. Unbelievable. Pahlsson is washed up and hasn't played much this year... He has like 5 goals and 10 assists all year. Terrible move now that I know they're giving up Kontiola.

A lot of Hawks fan over at chicagoblackhawks.co are NONE TOO HAPPY about the trade. Considering some good players were had today for decent price, to walk away with a guy who isn't even guarantee to play anymore this yr for Wiz a draft pick, AND Kontiola.....CRAP DEAL for the Hawks.

This trade reminds me of when the Cubs traded for Steve Trachsel.

First of all, never EVER use the Chicago Blackhawks official message boards. It's worse than Cubs.com message board... those people don't know one ounce of what they're talking about most of the time.

But yea, this is a raw deal... but there are reports that Kontiola was NOT involved.

I understand that, I was simply saying that Hawks fans are not liking this trade.

I know haha... just showing my disdain for that awful site... most of the people there are just posting reactionary responses when they likely don't know why it's such a bad deal.

As far as I can tell, most of the users of chicagoblackhawks.com boards fit into at least one of these two categories, and usually both:

1) Think that having season tickets makes them a special class of knowledgeable.

2) Care far less about the final score than how many fights are won.

I understand, but there isn't too many good places to talk Hawks (other than here), and it's kind of fun to read those posters.

The Score (take it for what it's worth) reported Kontiola is a piece in the deal on their last update. Again, take it for what it's worth.

Tim Sassone's article

Let's assume the Western Conference standings stay as they are and the Blackhawks face the Vancouver Canucks in the first round of the playoffs.

Who is going to match up at center against Canucks horse Mats Sundin?

The Hawks now have their answer.

It was with an eye to the playoffs that the Hawks acquired gritty center Sami Pahlsson from the Anaheim Ducks at Wednesday's trade deadline.

The price for the 31-year-old Pahlsson was steep, costing the Hawks popular defenseman James Wisniewski and prospect Petri Kontiola.

The Hawks also got minor-league defenseman Logan Stephenson and a conditional draft pick in the deal.

Why all the fuss about trading James Wisniewski? Because he's a character and a good guy?

He was also the Hawks' fifth or sixth defenseman who appeared to be less spunky than in the past, maybe because of his knee injuries.

I wish Sami Pahlsson could play right away too, but we're going to have to wait while he recovers from mono.

Did anyone think the Hawks could get through at least a round of the playoffs without a center to play behind Toews and Bolland? Kris Versteeg wasn't going to cut it.

Pahlsson is a terrific defensive center, and the Hawks are going to need him to play against guys like Sundin, Thornton and Datsyuk in the playoffs.

Dale Tallon is getting ripped by a lot of fans, but he didn't make this trade on his own. Scotty Bowman and Joel Quenneville both endorsed the deal and wanted Pahlsson.

This is a good trade, provided Pahlsson gets healthy in the next few weeks. We'll find out for sure in the playoffs.

As for the defense, Cam Barker has been playing better than Wisniewski. So has Matt Walker on many nights. Wisniewski was expendable.

I'm not the least bit qualified to judge the deal, but in their payroll situation, with several top players due bigger deals within the next year, it makes perfect sense to deal Wiz. They needed a center, and there didn't seem to be a lot out there.

I'm pretty excited about this deal. He seems to have a good reputation as a defensive forward, which we desperately needed for the playoffs.

ETA: and he's one of the top 20 guys in the league in faceoff percentage. Win!

After giving it time to sink in... I think the worst piece we lost was Kontiola. Wiz WAS expendable, I was just blinded by the fact he was one of my favorite players.

I realize there was no place for Kontiola in this organization down the road and that he needed to be moved... however, I think we could have gotten mroe for him.

300 level?

They remind me a lot of NSBB, and that's not entirely a good thing.

I'm back from the tropical isle and ready for some pucks, my friends.

The hotel had very little TV, and the only sports was ESPN. So I was relegated to watching the ticker to see what happened on Wednesday. They never reported the Pahlson trade. I heard about Antropov going for just a 2nd and a conditional. Where were you on that one, Dale?

Not pleased with this trade, even if most reports were that Kontiola was a pain in the ass. As someone else said, there were too many deals out there for Tallon to not get his hands on one of them. And sending away Wiz hurts the defensive depth.
