The question is not whether he deserves to be. It's pretty clear he probably won't deserve it. However, he's played most of his career in New York and Chicago. He's been to seven All Star games and will probably go to a few more. He'll probably finish with over 400 career home runs. And the biggest thing he has going for him is that the voters will consider his accomplishments in comparison to other leadoff hitters. He'll be considered one of the best leadoff hitters of all time even though he doesn't really fit the spot.

So, I'm going to say yes, he'll be a Hall of Famer when all is said and done. He shouldn't be, but he will.

Not a chance

I have a feeling that injuries are going to derail him sooner or later, and either way I don't think 400 home runs is a number that's going to make the voters wet their pants

Nah.

Does anyone on the Cubs right now have a real shot at the HOF besides Zambrano? Harden, sure, if he can stay at least relatively healthy.

Anyone else? I love Aramis and all, but is he shaping up for the HOF?

i think aramis has a decent chance. he's only 30, and he has some of the nice counting stats that voters like 100 RBI seasons. if he gets up to something like 2500 hits and 425 home runs, he'll have a pretty solid shot.

but third basemen have generally been underappreciated by Hall voters - they seem to think that 3B are supposed to hit as well as corner outfielders and first basemen.

I really doubt it unless Soriano can somehow keep up his current production over the next 5 years or so.

He has no MVP Awards. He had one year where he led his league in categories meaningful to HOF Voters (2002). He wasn't a meaningful contributor to the Yankees when he was on their WS team. His postseason numbers are mediocre. He's never been a very good defender at any of his positions.

I'm really surprised that none of you think he has a chance. I think the fact that voters will judge him in comparison to other leadoff hitters of his era is going to give him a huge boost.

Also, if he was to be a key part of a Cubs World Series team, I think he'd have his chances raised enormously.

The only stat that he has which is (or will be) impressive is the number of leadoff HRs. His power numbers as a LF are nothing special, his stealing days are pretty much done, and his defense borders between bad and great (throwing). No way he's a HOF player.

If Soriano had been able to stick at second, I would think so. He will still get votes over 50%, and given time may get voted in. Writers aren't exactly the greatest judges.

Aramis is about on the exact same pace that Chipper Jones was at his age so far as the sexy stats are concerned. The problem with comparing him with Chipper is that Chipper has always had high exposure being both on TBS near everyday and always being in the playoffs. Ramirez would go along way to help his cause if he were to win a gold glove (HOF voters like hearing "gold glover Aramis Ramirez, although Chipper doesn't have a gold glove either) and help the Cubs achieve something special.

If he continues to remain productive until his late 30's like Chipper is doing, then I could definitely see it.

Soriano, close but no cigar.

Z has a damn good shot barring any injury.

Most of the media types don't even view Soriano as a great leadoff hitter. They view him as a horribly miscast middle of the lineup hacker. I doubt the fact that he has been hitting 1st would get him any votes.

My Ramirez mancrush is well documented, but I just dont see how sportswriters ever look at him and don't think "Bad Defense and Lazy".

Aramis would need to go on a tear and hit like, 200 more home runs in his career which is tough since he's on the wrong side of 30 now.

Derrek Lee actually could have had a shot after that huge 2005 if he didn't hurt his wrist, derail his career and lose all his power :(

Strangely enough, BR has Aramis as Alf's no. 1 comparable

That's really odd since I wouldn't ever associate the two.

Oh BR

Ramirez never used to walk before this year, so its not that surprising to me.

He's also about as fast as I was on one leg and didn't strike out, either.

If he could keep us his steals, he might have the stats as a leadoff man. But the reason he is a leadoff man is that he is not patient enough to be a 3-5 hitter like he should be. I don't think that should work in his favor so as to get in the HOF as a leadoff man.
