As much as I wish Fontenot played an adequate SS, he doesn't.

You might could use him in an emergency situation, but as the main back-up, no.

as someone who corrects people for their grammar, you might want to avoid phrases like "might could"

Is that some kind of Louisiana thing or something?

I've seen that before, though extremely infrequently.

"Might could" is a very southern thing. I hear it around here all the time.

I'm not all that interested in trading Cedeno until the winter.

If Ned Colletti gets desperate for him, I've got no problem shipping him off now.

I don't see how it makes us better this year, and I don't see how we're going to get anything significant enough for Eyre and Cedeno to help us in the future.

It wouldn't make us better or worse this year - but if we could get Hu and, perhaps, Kuo from Colletti, it'd make us a good bit better in the future.

Obviously, though, I'm banking on us being able to take advantage of Colletti's lack of intelligence. I wouldn't give the two away for nothing.

Figured out why I've never seen it - I don't get HBO.

I guess it depends on what you're getting in return. Cedeno has value. Although he's a back-up for the Cubs, Cedeno has been decent offensively in his sharply limited opportunities and has been very good defensively. I suppose if you can turn Cedeno and Eyre into a bullpen upgrade, and pick up Everett... that might be worth it.

Who would the Cubs have as a back up SS? I don't understand trading Cedeno unless they get some pretty good quality in return and a back up plan.

Trade Cedeno and Eyre... and pick up Everett.

Bingo...exactly what a buddy & I were talking about this morning...

Sounds like the report on Everett wasn't accurate. Star-Tribune says he's still with the Twins.

Casilla's bum thumb is forcing them to keep Everett.

Everett's injuries have limited his defense. Adam Everett without the defense is worthless.

If that's the case, then I totally agree. Of course, if he's healthy, damn that's a nice defensive replacement at the end of close games.

Well, nevermind on the Everett idea. Without a replacement backup SS, I'm not sure how dealing Cedeno and Eyre helps the Cubs.

For the little bit of time that Theriot actually misses, I could live with Ethier in CF the rest of the season with no true SS back up. Between Fontenot, DeRosa and even Soriano, I think the Cubs would be a much better team with Ethier. Fix it where we give them enough to land Ethier and call it a day.

Heck, I'd take Andres Blanco as the back up SS if the Cubs could get Kemp or Ethier with a package of Edmonds, Eyre and Cedeno.

That's what I was wondering. How is Everett's defense this year?

If he is still as good defensively as he previously was, then I'd trade Cedeno to the Dodgers assuming they would give something of value and pick up Everett for his defense. But if that defense isn't what it used to be, and honestly I don't know as I haven't paid much attention to him this year, then I'd hang on to Cedeno unless a decent back-up option became available.

I can't see why the Dodgers would trade away Kuo if they are looking to acquire Eyre (or is it just Cedeno now?).

I don't know that they'd do it, but NCCubFan (I think) brought the Kuo idea up. I'd try to structure something around Cedeno for Hu.

Yeah, that does change things then. I thought Everett was available AND relatively healthy when speaking w/ my friend this morning...

I brought up Kuo. He's been their long man it looks like, at least until a couple games though. I don't know if his role changed or it's just an aberration.

Ah, I knew it was one of the many mods who brought that up.

Sorry for the confusion Tiger and NCCubFan. :D
