matt craig was my grandad's favorite cubs prospect when he was a kid

Matt Craig is a completely different hitter since he returned from the Spanish American War.

Matt Craig's been in the system a year longer than McGehee has.

Long enough to be a minor league free agent after this year - McGehee still belongs to the Cubs for next season. Also (although I doubt it made any difference) Craig pulled an oblique on the 31st so is on the DL anyway.

I thought I'd heard that, but didn't see his name on the DL from the Iowa website. McGehee belonging to the Cubs next season is another reason to have rostered a healthy Craig instead of McGehee. There's no need to roster McGehee unless you think he's gone in rule 5. You don't roster Craig and he's gone to somewhere that will get him his first major league PA before the age of 35 rather than keeping him Cubs property through that age. I realize losing Matt Craig isn't that big of a deal and isn't anything to really freak out about, but the McGehee thing is just damn puzzling.

The only reason Craig didnt make the majors earlier is because he never got along with Frank Chance very well.

Didn't Craig test positive for PED's during the last offseason? Could be another reason he didn't get the call.

It was a while back...April 2005.

So McGehee's first two AB's are an overmatched K and a Double Play...hmmm...yeah Dubois, Craig, or Scales would have been much worse. ](*,)

Or, heaven forbid, Hendry could have sobered up and acquired an actual veteran major league hitter.

2 ABs. Good sample size. Let's draw some conclusions.

As much as I hate to agree with you, you're right. Having a right handed threat off the bench is something that this team is clearly lacking.

I'm drawing conclusions off his entire minor league career. McGehee isn't now, nor will he ever be a major league caliber hitter. The fact that he's taking important ABs this season is mind-numbing.

Especially when a potential quality RH pinch hitter was already on the 40 man roster.
