Eyre - well rested

Samardzija - Nope

Gaudin - Nope

Howry - well rested but who cares

Marmol - only good for an inning

Marshall - Probably still not available, in emergency can go 1 inning

Cotts - Good to go.

So assuming Lilly goes 6, it would probably be Cotts in the 7th, Howry in the 8th....and on the off chance Howry gets a few line drives directly at OFs, Marmol in the 9th. If he goes less than 6, then its looking like Eyre will finally get to pitch, but thats not a scenario that we really want.

Since the brewers are very good against lefties, I think Lilly goes in favor of a right-hander -- if it is early, I guess that's got to be Howry -- appropriate, since he now seems to be much more suited to middle-relief than late innings. Looks to me like a close games means two innings for Marmol -- assuming Gaudin and Samardzija will be available Tuesday, the Cubs can live with that.

In fact, if it's close and Sabathia is out of the game, they should consider replacing Lilly with Marmol, even in the sixth or seventh. Let some combination of Howry, Cotts, Eyre get through the final inning or inning +.

Alright, here we go. I've been lurking on this site since around September of '03. I don't know why, but I've never posted here, although I enjoy the conversations, and input from all the posters. In my opinion, and I'm sure the view of just about everyone else, this is the most important regular season series since the 5 game series with St. Louis in September of '03. I wish I could be there to be a part of it, but will definitely be glued to the TV and radio for every pitch. To me this is what being a fan is all about, going head to head with the other top contender, in a later season series. Hopefully we can get at the very least a split, and maybe even 3 out of 4. Either way, it's going to be a great series. GO CUBS!

Just wanted to say good luck this series, and hopefully it'll be full of entertaining (and injury-free) games. I'll try to cut down on my posts here during the series, out of respect to everyone here -- I doubt many people want to know what a Brewer fan thinks, especially if things get ugly for either side.

I also hope those going to the game have a good time, and try not to mind the drunken idiots who call themselves Brewer fans that only bother to come out for Opening Day and Cubs games. It's really unfortunate, but a lot of the diehard Brewer fans have stopped going to these Cubs games at Miller Park because they can't stand the drunk college frat boys who feel it's necessary to curse out every opposing player even though they're sitting next to a 6-year old. I guess that kind of thing comes with having a successful team, though.

Here's to hoping for a civil series, and afterwards we can go back to burying the Cards into third place. :D

Umm yeah those types of fans make up 85% of our fan base, so we definitely understand where you are coming from. Also don't mind those drunken fools from our side. Just don't respond when they jeer at you like blabbering idiots and they will stop. But at the same time, don't assume all Cubs fans will be like that because I'm going tomorrow and I most certainly won't be like that.

I agree. This is our most significant regular season series in quite some time.

Welcome to the boards.

question 1

jason kendall's throwing arm WTF

During spring training, Ned Yost(a former catcher himself) and the staff looked at his throwing motion and found something wrong with it. They corrected it very early on and it seems to have given him more strength on this throws.

yeah but his arm hasn't looked strong for years. it wasn't throwing motion that was the problem, it was simply arm strength. i'm puzzled as to how he regained it. protein shakes?

Fukudome is a platoon player now?

I just got it off the comments on TCR, none of the major sites have a lineup. For the reasons CCP mentioned, I'd prefer Fukudome in and Cedeno out, so hopefully the lineup is wrong.

I don't know how his arm got stronger, but his accuracy has been (literally) unbelievable so far this year, especially after we had to sit through a year of Johnny Estrada behind the plate. He's had his bad throws here and there, but for the most part he's been tough to steal on (unless Sheets is pitching -- he takes so long to get to the plate that it's impossible for Kendall to throw anyone out).

Kendall had LASIK surgery over the winter...maybe they gave him a robotic arm while he was in surgery, too. I honestly have no idea.
