Probable Starters:

Iowa: RHP Randy Wells

Tennessee: RHP Esmailin Caridad

Peoria: RHP Jose Pina

Boise: RHP Marcus Hatley

Mesa: RHP Larry Suarez

Mesa's starters are always best guesses. Jon Lieber could start for Mesa, he'd be on 5 days rest.

The DSLers are playing their all-star game today.

Jackson piggybacking Pina again?

Looks like he is. Jay Jackson is in in relief of Pina in the third.

2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K so far for Jay Jackson.

As a pro: 26.1 IP, 5 BB, 40 K.

And just a 9th rounder. Not bad. :)

Jackson's final line: 4 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 7/1 K/BB

44/5 K/BB in 28.1 IP as a pro

At Peoria: 19.1 IP, 2.33 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 0.93 HR/9, 13.96 K/9, 1.86 BB/9

He'll be 20 years old all season long.

How long does he stay in Peoria? That K/BB ratio is bananas.

Esmailin Caridad had a no-hitter going and lost it with no outs in the 6th on an IF single towards SS Matt Camp - Camp made a great play to get to it and spin around to throw it, but then threw it away.

Current temp in Las vegas for the I-Cubs is 103 - good news is the humidity is low so it only feels like 103.

edit - now it's 104 at 3:50 CDT

Tough break for Iowa swinging by Tucson and then Vegas in July (granted Tucson was a bit cooler than normal but also a bit humid).

Larry Suarez does indeed get the start for Mesa. Wonder what's up with Lieber for not starting on 5 days rest.

I think I read somewhere that he was in Chicago and threw for the Cubs coaches.

Makes sense.

Drew Rundle smacked a 3-run HR for Boise in the 8th inning to give them a 7-5 lead (but he struck out 2 more times).

Larry Suarez has thrown 2 scoreless and hitless.

Found this in BA's 2007 top 10 prospects in the summer Great Lakes League:

2. Jay Jackson, rhp/of/1b, Delaware (Furman)

The league's top athlete, Jackson hit just .196 but has a future on the mound, despite being a shorter (6-foot-1) righty. His loose arm allows for some projection and lends movement to all his stuff, and his athleticism allows him to repeat his delivery well. His fastball regularly sat around 90 mph and touched 93, and his solid command allowed him to throw not just strikes, but consistent quality strikes. He showed some ability to spin a breaking ball for strikes. He showed his athleticism by running a 6.6-second 60-yard dash on scout day.

Jackson is certainly interesting thus far.

Not to equal extend, but another surprise draftee thus far is Dan McDaniel. Another couple of clean innings tonight for Boise. In 13.1 innings, he's 4H-5BB-22K. He'll be 20 when next season opens, so relative to the college-oriented draft, he's one of the younger ones. I didn't get many draft notes on him, but did read one article that said he'd pitched through a rib injury for most of the season to disappointing results, before doing well in playoffs. The article also suggested that pre-season, before his health-related mediocrity, that he'd been projected to be a high-round pick, higher than the 12th or 14th round where the Cubs picked him. That was a local paper, of course, and what they say about "high-round" might mean mean much.

But have any of you Boise video-cast guys seen him? Does he look very good? Is he pretty fast, or projectible, or what?
