You're forcing your pitcher to throw strikes. If he gets behind, as we saw, the pitcher is forced to throw a meatball. There is no margin for error if you get behind. If you get behind and it's 1st and 3rd, you can still nibble/try to get them to chase out of the zone to get them out.
