His power production has really taken a big hit, but he's still hitting and seeing the ball well it seems. I assume this would be to replace Rickie Weeks and his awful production

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel is saying the deal is just awaiting Ray Durham's approval, since he's a 10-and-5 player. Haudricourt says the Brewers will be sending Darren Ford and pitcher Steve Hammond, which leads him to believe the Brewers are also getting Jack Taschner. Since Weeks has been hitter the ball better as of late, it's expected Durham will just be a bat off the bench for now, but he does provide insurance in case Weeks falls off again. From the Brewers perspective, it's better than giving Craig Counsell 2 starts a week.

This is a pretty good pickup for the Brewers if they didn't have to give up much.

I agree. Even if they end up platooning Weeks and Durham, it should be a marked improvement for them.

So wait, whose dugout will Durham be in today? Can he pinch hit for The Brewers or The Giants? Has to be kind of an awkword situation for him if the trade isnt quite official, but done for all practical purposes, and hes in uniform in The Giants dugout cheering on the Brewers.

I could be wrong, but I believe the Giants sent Durham home with the "flu" a couple days ago -- he hasn't made a single appearance in the Giants/Brewers series so far. It's kind of interesting that Durham hasn't been with the team since the break and is now likely getting traded, though...it makes you wonder how long this trade was in the works.

The deal was announced as final on the Brewers postgame show on FSN -- they said the Brewers were sending outfielder Darren Ford and pitcher Steve Hammond in return. Neither Ford nor Hammond really projected to ever play in Milwaukee.

Tom Haudricourt says that the Giants are also picking up about half of the $3 million he's still owed this season, and Durham is happy to join the Brewers (who wouldn't be happy to leave the Giants at this point?). So they gave up an average hitter with no pop and a lot of SBs and a dime-a-dozen spot starter.

I like the trade for the Brewers but I don't think that Ray will play more than twice a week. The Brewers gave up two farmhands that more than likely, would have never seen a Brewer uniform.

So is Hendry going to continue the pattern and acquire Brian Roberts tomorrow?

No no, the response has to be acquiring a player of the same position from the West Coast. He's clearly going to acquire Jeff Kent.

Actually, would that be a terrible idea as a RH bat with power off the bench if the Dodgers agree to pay some of the $9 mil he's owed this year? He'd be a free agent after the season.

Rumor has it we're aquiring someone on Thursday, maybe Wednesday. They say hes pretty good.

Former second baseman. Doesn't count.

against the Cubs:

Yost is going to put him in an "against the cubs only" platoon

Pretty much looks that way. Ford seems to be the kind of guy Brian Sabean loves -- lots of speed with no power. I think he aspires to one day put together a lineup in which no one hits more than 10 HR.

More like the "flew," as in he probably flew with his new teammates to St. Louis after the game today.

How does Durham go from .218/.295/.343 last year to .293/.385/.414 this year?

This move reeks of Matt Lawton to me. Remember how excited we were to get a leadoff hitter with no pop and a decent OBP that year? That didn't work out too well for us.

Matt Lawton with Pittsburgh that year .273/.380/.433.

UGH!!!!!!!! This really worries me!

They still haven't fixed the bullpen and they still have Ned "I want to platoon pitchers" Yost managing the team. I'm not worried. The Cubs are a better team.

The Brewers and the Cardinals have been getting fat on the same teams everyone else gets fat on. This is going to come to down to head-to-head match ups. Advantage Cubs.
