My apologies, I wasn't aware that improving the team was "nitpicking". I personally like the idea of improving the team as much as possible and the next time Cedeno comes up late in the game in a crucial part of the game and shows no plate discipline and swings at garbage over his head and strikes out, you let me know if you still think that i'm "nitpicking".

Now, HERE'S some nit picking for ya ..........

Cedeno P PA P/PA BDI LOB RBI%
6th inning 82 19 4.32 2 5 0.286
7th inning 104 25 4.16 1 13 0.071
8th inning 79 20 3.95 8 9 0.471
9th inning 36 9 4.00 0 5 0.000

6th thru 9th 301 73 4.12 11 32 0.256
All innings 569 145 3.92 19 75 0.202

Well besides a RH pitcher in the pen to replace Hart  I gotta say when I look at the way this current team is constructed that a RH Veteran bat off the bench to replace Cedeno's is crucial. That to me is a glaring hole. Cedeno and Blanco coming off the bench as your primary RH bats simply is not good enough. I know I know, when the Cubs face righties once Soriano is healthy, Johnson will be the Primary RH bat. The point is though, Cedeno is a terrible PH and is just sucking up a roster spot and the Cubs are definitely pursuing this hole.

Any ideas who would be a nice pick up? I personally wouldn't mind the Cubs going after Chris Gomez of the Pirates. He is a .263 lifetime hitter but his last 5 seasons have been pretty solid. He also has a career .303 BA and a .397 OBP as a PH. Sure would take that over Cedeno, ay?

I stopped reading when you said a player off the bench is a 'glaring need'

Sorry

at this point it is nitpicking...I think this team could use a real color analyst on the radio instead of a "cheerleader"..but that is about it.

That's funny. I wish they'd move Santo and Hughes to TV to replace the morons Len & Bob.

you prefer the hard-hitting analysis of Ron Santo

Bullpen and bench depth. I think Marte/Fuentes and Sexson would be nice additions.

Sexson?!? :-k

Why?

I agree. Sexson has no place on this team unless he replaces Ward. I don't envision that happening nor would I be in favor of it.

I wouldn't be in favor of him replacing Ward. I would still say Sexson is a downgrade anywhere he is capable of playing.

To get to the end of September healthy.

The are the best team in the NL. They need to get/stay healthy and Lou needs to let Marmol, Howery, and Wood rest up.

I'd like to hear Pat describe in detail the uniforms sported by both teams while I watched the game in glorious HD.

Even if I didn't like baseball I would like listening to Ron Santo and Pat Hughes.

Yes, Ron can get sidetracked, and forgetful... but he loves the game and every once in a while comes up with some pretty keen observations, but sometimes you gotta wait a bit.

Ron Santo is a terrible color commentator. Just awful.

I love the game. Would you like to hear me holler, yelp and ramble incoherently for 3 hours?

Tony Clark won't be the addition, thankfully. If the Cubs are tinkering to get just a bit better, clearly they can either improve at the margins or in depth. A bullpen can always be upgraded, but the cost may be a bit high. With Gaudin added to Wood, Eyre and Marmol, I'm not sure they should pay what it will take to get someone better than them. And someone who is not as good may not even be as good as Cotts and Wuertz.

A RH bat, who can also play OF better than DeRosa would be helpful. Does Jay Payton fit the bill? He still hits lefties pretty well, and would be a nice defensive replacement if something happened to Edmonds/Johnson. But is he better than Jason Dubois? Maye Kevin Mench can help. -- he hit lefties well last year. Mark Grudzielanik could play that role, as well.

Who goes to make room for that bat is a very good question.

He doesn't do his job and he has no business up there in the booth.

If he was paired with less of a pro than Hughes, sure, but with Pat there you're not missing anything. Ron is a mess, but he's a fun mess since you have Hughes as such a sturdy anchor.
