There was some talk of this in the other games thread but for those who missed it:

I mean, I'd be embarrassed to have those clowns calling my team's baseball games. It's worse than freakin Harrelson and DJ. It's partially due to the fact I'm sure that there are 3 fans in the whole park so the crowd noise is low, but good God, how did these 2 get hired?

"Mrs. McDavis?"

"One of the greatest comebacks in the history of this organization... look at it, it's unbelievable"

Then one of them spells something that I still can't figure out

"Raise that Jolly Roger!"

"How proud can you be of your Pittsburgh Pirates tonight?" (All 3 of you)

"Baseball game"

"All gone, all gone" - this one is ridiculous

Let this semi-rant not overshadow the more important fact however, that the Pirates did help us out, in the end.

Odd rant. That doesn't even sniff the epic horrible lows that Hawk and DJ reach on a daily basis. I've heard the Pirates' guys plenty of times in my EI days...they're incrediby boring, but that clip doesn't seem especially bad compared to most announcers flipping out over a big win, and that was a pretty huge win. Its the Pirates they take what they can get.

I will admit they went a bit overboard, however, they were down 10-2 going into the 8th, which is a pretty impressive comeback for anyone, especially considering how bad of a team the Pirates are.

i think your attitude is pretty condescending... it smacks of "the pirates suck so why get excited?" they don't have much to celebrate, but they've had some nice come-from-behind wins this year, and this was a great win that anyone should be excited about. and yes, the pirates' fan base is pretty apathetic right now, but remember how sparse the cubs' crowds got in 2006 when they were terrible? that was the second losing season in a row; the pirates have had 15, and the organization frequently gives away its best players (thanks for aramis btw) because they're a small market team.

also, they say "raise the jolly roger" after every win.

Agree 100% with this. The comeback by the Pirates was pretty amazing last night, and with injuries and a short bench, the deck was stacked against them. I actually enjoyed the annoucers getting that excited, just the same as I do when Ron goes crazy during walk off hits/homers.

Don't get me wrong, I love Ronnie as much as the next Cubs fan, but with the grunts/screams of anguish/cries of joy on a 50000 watt transmitter, we have no room to talk about another team's announcers doing much the same thing after an amazingly improbable win. That team hasn't had much to celebrate since "We Are Family", let 'em enjoy that bone - I'm happy for them.

Getting excited about the win is nothing to be upset with. The Pittsburgh announcers are pretty bad though. "Raise the Jolly Roger" makes me cringe just thinking about someone saying that unironically, and there was a game there a couple years ago where they ignored the game(and about 5 runs) for about 10 minutes to talk to someone from the Penguins organization.

Some fans of other teams think the "Go Cubs Go" song is stupid also. Raise the Jolly Roger sounds stupid to us just the same, but its their own thing.

that song is stupid.

You can't compare Ron's celebrating to those guys. Ron usually yells, but these guys are going nuts for 40+ seconds and screaming straight up gibberish.

I understand why they're excited, and I'm happy for the Pirates, but don't compare this to Santo.

When he did the "S-A-TUR-DAY NIGHT!" thing, I fell off my couch.

That call was the worst and best thing ever, all at the same time.

Why are some of you telling me that I'm shunning them for getting excited? I didn't say that and certainly didn't mean to imply it. I would expect the broadcasters of every team to get excited in a situation like this. The point I'm trying to make is that this sounds downright unprofessional to me.
