Yeah it's really weird how eager people are to push Edmonds out of the starting lineup. I was as big a doubter as anyone when he first came here, but I think it might be time to accept that Edmonds isn't the washed up piece of crap he was the first couple months of the year.

I wouldn't want to release him or anything, but I sure wouldn't want to count on him contributing much the rest of the way. Anything he gives us is gravy, I guess.

And his defense is scary bad.

me either we'd just have a stacked left-handed bat off the bench and johnson for a righty is terrible

I'd like to see the Cubs work out a blockbuster with the Rockies and get Holiday and Fuentes, kind of what Boston did to get Burkett and Lowell. I'd send Marmol, Cedeno and 3 to 4 of the top prospects (Pie/Vitters)...if the Rockies like them and it would match up.

Am I the only one who thinks thats a terrible comparison?

No you're not. And no I wouldn't make that trade.

Neither would the Rockies, unless controlled by an XBOX with the no AI trade flag turned on.

Ha I feel like most trades that all of us suggest on here are at least semi XBOX no trade in them haha

Does anyone else have a feeling Hendry might somehow get creative with his pitching depth and make himself another blockbuster deal before the deadline?

Well, I certainly think, or hope that he'll pick up another bat. Not sure who he can pick up with what we have available, but adding another stick would be good.

I know I hate to bring it up, but adding a certain left fielder from Cincinnati!

This is somewhat off topic, but would either of the good baseball games out this year allow you to make the Harden trade for the players involved with the AI trade flag turned on? I dont have mlbTheShow or the other one (I forget the name) for 2008 and one of the things holding me back is that the rosters will be fouled up and since I dont have broadband internet I cant just download an update. Unless I can throw it on a usb stick at the office and bring it home (have a PS3).

How about OF Milton Bradley?

That actually makes a lot of sense to me. He's a switch-hitting OF with power and Texas needs pitching. Marquis would look really good in a Texas uniform as the veteran pitcher in the deal.

We'd probably have to send at least one prospect back to Texas if they take Marquis. Who would be a fair offer?

Let's just say this. Texas asked for Gallagher and Murton for Marlon Byrd in the winter. Bradley should have a lot higher value to them, especially since he'll get at least one draft pick for Texas when he becomes a free agent. The price would likely be very high.

Well things have died down and probably will be dead for the cubs for the rest of the month so I'm going to throw some crazy stuff out there. I know they are stretches, but...

Marquis, Cedeno, Pie, Wells for Giles and Greene--deal prospect depth for players who can contribute in 2008 and 2009 to a team that isn't in contention

Theriot, Veal, and Hart for Kershaw--sell high to a terrible GM who is fighting for a playoff spot, needs offensive help badly (and SS is their worst position), for a player who isn't on the ML roster

Lilly and Wuertz for Hughes--sell high to a terrible owner who is fighting for a playoff spot, needs SP help badly (Darrell Rasner and Sidney Ponson are in their rotation), for a player who is currently injured and whos stock as fallen.

I know these types of trades aren't made (except by DePo), but I'd love for us to find some teams we match up well with and improve ourselves for the future, while not sacrificing the present. And, these teams would be getting more than just rentals in return. In real life a GM would never want to tinker with a first place team thats doing so well and upset the chemistry or whatever old saying you want to use. But call me crazy, but I don't see Edmonds and Theriot repeating their first halves.

And for the obligatory lineup/rotation...

Soriano

Fukudome

Lee

Ramirez

Giles

Soto

Greene

DeRosa

Z

Harden

Dempster

Kershaw

Hughes (Marshall, Gaudin, Hill)

Hrm. I don't know if I want him that badly, then.

Trading Lilly and Wuertz is selling high?

Those are some fascinating ideas though. I wonder how little Colletti thinks of Hu right now. At his worst he's a more consistent defender than Cedeno with a similar bat. What about a 3 way deal with the Pirates? I can't find a combo I like yet, but something centered around Wilson to LA, Hu and Bay/McLouth to Chicago, and Dodger/Cub pitching(with Cedeno too) to Pittsburgh.

Hughes is on the 60 day DL with a rib fracture.

Yeah, well maybe that wasn't exactly selling high, I copied and pasted the comment from the Theriot deal and forgot to change that.

I see Hu as (like you said) a more consistant fielder, but with a bit of a weaker bat that Cedeno. Overall, they are both fringe starters. I don't think the Pirates would be willing to give up the 2 best players in the present and the future in a deal, regardless of salary.

Hence, "for a player who is currently injured"...contrary to popular belief, you CAN trade a player who is on the DL.

How about OF Milton Bradley?

Sky (The Roc, NY): Can Milton Bradley play the outfield without risking re-injuring his knee? He's much more valuable to a team in RF than at DH...

Will Carroll: I don't think he could play every day, but some? Sure.
