During this brutal stretch, the Cubs went 10-13 on the road and 7-2 at home, giving them a 17-15 mark. If I'm not mistaken, the Cubs started this stretch with a 2.5 lead on the Cardinals and 7 over the Brewers. They increased the lead over the Cardinals but lost 3.5 to the Brewers.

That said, they survived this stretch and actually have a bigger 1st place lead now then they did when it started. The Cubs now enjoy home cooking for quite a while (19 out of 29) and being that they are dominant at home, I look for them to pull away a little bit more over the next 30 days.

Hopefully they can gain some breathing room with more home games because I believe Len & Bob commented that the Cubs finish the season with 16 of 22 on the road, including the final 4 game series in Miller Park.

I hope people remember this post when they go to make predictions about a September collapse because of all the road games.

Meaning that you don't want to hear it if they collapse as they had the chance to bury the division before September?

I don't want to hear people saying we'll win 4 games all September because we're going on the road.

Really we have a 4 game series against the Brewers in Milwaukee to round out the season? Ugh, theres a very small chance that we'll have the division wrapped up before then after all...

it was the fox crew that said 4 in Milwaukee, but it's actually 4 in New York and then 3 in Milwaukee to end the season.

Got 4 in Milwaukee to end this month.

I didn't see where anyone has said that in this thread. Finishing with 16 of 22 on the road is less than ideal, that is all. I don't think anyone should have an issue with the Cubs building as big of a lead as possible before that stretch begins.

Guess I should know better than to believe anything the networks say by now. :banghead:

It's not going to get better anytime soon, either. The cubs have 10 home games in july. That's it.

Meh, there are only 10 more road games in July, too.

August, now there's a month with a lot of home games.

I know, it's just to go-to lament when the sky starts falling.

The September scheduling sucks, there is no denying that. It's going to be so much fun watching the Cubs play all their games hundreds and/or thousands of miles away from Chicago in the middle of a pennant race.

Great for baseball's ratings having one of their biggest TV and in-person audiences hamstrung during the time when the craziness is at it's peak, too. Whoever made this schedule should be fired, it's really that simple.

Yeah, that's true. I forgot about th allstar break.

August is going to be insane.

Posted

july: 10 home, 10 away

august: 19 home, 9 away

september: 9 home, 16 away

we should make some hay in august if we want to be safely on top by the end of september.

remaining series:

Home:

3 vs Cincy

3 vs San Fran

4 vs Florida

3 vs Pittsburgh

3 vs Houston

3 vs St. Louis

3 vs Cincy

3 vs Washington

4 vs Philadelphia

3 vs Houston

3 vs Milwaukee

3 vs St. Louis

Away:

3 @ Houston

3 @ Arizona

4 @ Milwaukee

3 @ Atlanta

3 @ Florida

3 @ Pittsburgh

3 @ Cincy

3 @ St. Louis

3 @ Houston

4 @ New York Mets

3 @ Milwaukee

so we have 7 left at milwaukee versus only 3 against them at home. that is kind of a big deal as far as the division goes. we've already gotten the trip to philly out of the way; arizona and florida have usually not been fun road trips, but neither team is playing that well. we do have 6 home versus only 3 away with st. louis. and, it should be noted that the brewers still have to do the west coast swing.

The Cubs play 25 games in September. 9 of them are in Wrigley, for which there truly is no substitute. However, 6 more are in venues where the Cubs are extremely well represented(St. Louis, Milwaukee). And another 3 are in a nearby city(Cincinnati) that will likely be dominated by Cubs fans since they'll be in the hunt and the Reds will have nothing to play for. That leaves the Mets series and the Astros(who also will have nothing to play for) as the only true hostile environments the Cubs face that month.

i'm not gonna lie, i really do not like the cubs going to shea at the end of the year. my only game ever there was the victor diaz game. whoever made this year's schedule has a sick sense of humor.

It does seem weird that the Cardinals haven't even been to Wrigley yet this year, and won't until the second week of August.

if the cubs still have a lead in the division after the four game series in Milwaukee July 28-31, i'm going to start feeling really confident about their chances. i'll be on edge until then.

Come on now. We're Cubs fans. Lets be honest, we have a LOT of go-to laments.

Haven't the cubs always done well in Milwaukee? It is not your typical road game because the crowd is usually about 50% cubs fans.
