i know backup catchers are not supposed to be good hitters, but how on earth has dane sardinha managed to wriggle his way into the big leagues? i looked up his stats because people always said he was a great defensive catcher who couldn't hit, and was wondering if his bat finally progressed. nope - he was .202/.255/.325/580 last year, and has a career minor league line of .222/.264/.337/601. he has to be the worst-hitting position player on a major league roster, right?

Congratulations, Lee, you now own the ML lead in GIDP

when i watched the game last night the other night, they were talking about theriot's gidp rate as a reason for moving him down in the lineup

If that is the case, then maybe the Cubs should consider moving Lee down. Not as dramatic as Theriot (#2 to #8), maybe to #5 behind a returning Fuku and ARam @ 3-4.

Why can this team never get more than 20 games over .500?

the team is hurting with all the injuries. the lineup is weak and z is missed. some of the holes will be plugged soon with guys returning from injury.

I wonder if LaRussa actually thinks to himself, "I've been at the park long enough for one day", then sends Parisi out for the bottom half of an extra inning.

seriously, do you think they called him up just to see if dave duncan could make literally anybody good? he walks 3.5-4 guys per 9 IP, strikes out only 6-6.5 per 9, gives up 10-11 hits per 9, good for a 1.55 WHIP - in springfield and memphis. he looks terrible on paper... les walrond's numbers have more upside that mike parisi.

Twice in one week he's given up the walk off in extra innings. That Cardinal pen is really in sorry shape.
