The tying run on deck with two outs is not a closer-needing situation. The odds of the batter on deck with two outs coming up and eventually scoring are almost nil.

 

This is a case of emotions over reality. Emotionally, it seems scary that you've gone from 11-4 to tying run on deck. Reality is there's little chance. Piniella is always overmanaging to try to stamp out small chances to lose.
