Was Dye going down the line in a wheelchair?

Holy crap he's slow.

The commercial they have of him making an "amazing" diving catch is so obviously only amazing becase of the insanely slow route he takes on the ball. It's embarassing.

Hawk....

If him and Joe Morgan had a lovechild it'd be Carl from Slingblade.

Marquis has only thrown 70 pitches, so I'd leave him out there until he gets into some trouble.

You say this like Marquis getting into trouble is a rarity.

5 runs through 5 innings isn't "getting into some trouble?"

I understand your point and I see what you're trying to say, but he's just going to get worse. He's not fooling anyone, and I'd like to not have to use Marmol or Wood today if at all possible. We've got Lieber.

Looks like he'll be in for at least 1 more inning, though.

This is hilarious. I was playing a computer game, came back to check on the game and all I saw was this Marquis bashing and thought, damn, we must be screwed...until I read Fred's inning recap and realized it was 10-5 Cubs.

I don't even know what that means.

I'd love to hear a conversation about baseball between Dusty and Hawk. The metaphors, cliches, analogies, and figures of speech would reach astronomical levels.

What Vance is alluding to is that we have a 5 run lead. Marquis has only thrown 70 pitches (even though he hasn't been very good), but you don't want to use your bullpen up when you can get another inning, possibly even another two innings out of your starter because of the lead we have.

Now if he gets into some trouble, then you take him out and you go to the pen.

Marquis is just awful.

Marquis came into today with an ERA+ of 105, which is pretty consistent with his last few seasons.

What more do people want from him?

To take the rest of the day off....

Even if he is a bad pitcher, bad pitchers are made for five-run leads.

The problem is he's a stupid goofball. He walks hitters that don't walk, gives up home runs to players that don't hit home runs, makes stupid insanely dangerous tosses to first on routine plays, or makes low throws on possible double plays. He even has a balk, no one else on the team has a balk.

Its not how bad he is, its how he goes about being bad.

To be good enough that we don't have to worry about a 6 run lead when he is on the mound. Oh and maybe to hit his spots just once in a while.
