I love it. It just makes the Sox look more insecure and bitter about the fact that nobody cares about their team. The Cubs never talk about the Sox because they simply don't care about them.

You're right. It's funny that Mariotti mentions this in his article tomorrow. He really ripped the White Sox to shreds, especially Williams.

I actually liked that article. WTG, Mariotti.

The difference is the media asks the White Sox players questions about the Cubs.

That's because they know they'll get a "headline" response.

I'm glad their insecurities are so evident.

Has a Cubs player ever said anything bad about the White Sox? I honestly can't remember.

Who's Mark Buehrle? is the only one I can think of, and that came after a Sox player accused him of cheating.

Cubs have no reason to bash. They have the bigger fanbase, a beloved stadium, fans that worship them, they are in first place. I doubt they even know there is another baseball team that plays in Chicago.

i wonder if he was asked a provocative question or if he just mouthed off about wrigley

The lazy members of the Chicago sports media need to milk the non-existant rivalry for all they can so they don't have to come up with something intelligent to write about.

I'm surprised nobody has asked Guillen yet how he'd feel about Piniella if he had fathered illegitimate children.

After awhile teams begin to take on the character of their leader. We saw it in 2004 when the Cubs took on the thin-skinned, us-vs-the-world attitude of Baker. Ozzie has always involved himself in the crude trash-talking about the Cubs and Wrigley, so it's not surprising players like Danks get in the middle of it, especially since Danks is young and impressionable.

Dempster, before the 2006 season. Something about how he didn't like how the Sox were "parading through our streets."

D. Lee made a remark last year about how it would be nice to finally bring a championship to Chicago.

Those are all I can remember, but never anything as hostile as Danks' comments. Part of me suspects it's not actually about jealousy but just part of the Sox' marketing m.o. (see the "us vs. them" commercials from 2004). Not a bad idea from a purely business standpoint, although an admittedly lame one.

Not a wise move for Danks to run his mouth seeing as how he has to step up to the plate today.

I'm just sayin'.

Frankly, the fact that Danks, or any other Sox player, doesn't like Wrigley makes me love it even more.

I think he said that because the Sox had thoughts of taking the parade through the North Side.

I highly doubt that was a dig on the W.Sox. I really think that the Cubs players don't pay too much attention what is going on with the South Side.

I also remember Howry being asked how it feels to be playing for the Cubs and his response was something like "You mean the good side of town?" I am pretty sure Erye said something like that as well.

I actually love it when the Cubs and Sox players are more candid when asked about the rivalry. The sports writers love to ask the Sox players/mangers questions about Wrigley and the Cubs because they know it will piss them off, they will give a quote, and the writer will have a story. Players and mangers get ripped for canned answers all the time, at least they are being honest... even if what they say is stupid.
