I wish I was the guy that got to massage Phelps's ass muscles.

he has no ass, that's what makes him good, apparently.

They did a breakdown of his features before his race.

He's 6'4'' with a 6'7'' wingspan. Size 14 feet. His legs are as long as that of a man who is 6'0'', but his torso is as tall as a man who is 6'8''.

A 32" waist, that's unbelievable.

I have a 32" waist.

But I'm closer to 5' 4" than 6' 4" :(

I'm 6'3" and have a 32" waist. I don't see what's so unbelievable about it.

6'4" and 185 lbs, but he looks 225. 12,000 calorie diet.

Karolie is still technically the coach of the team right, but the Chinese wouldn't let him on the floor?
I don't think he is. His wife is the team coordinator, though.

More like other gymnasts won't let him run the US program because he's too commandeering.. His wife runs it.

I am starting to believe that if Michael Phelps announced he was going to attempt to take over the world and eliminate all black people, NBC would spearhead his campaign and throw all their resources at it.

if phelps trained for the 50 and 100 free, would he win them? he's not as large as bernard or vandenloogenhoogen or popov or hall, but he gave sullivan all he could handle in the first leg of 4x100.

i doubt it. he's not a great sprinter; he pretty much always has to come from behind in the 100 fly (which scares me, he's going to have to go 50.5 or under to win tomorrow morning, i think). he's a great mid-distance swimmer and i think he could be great at distance if he worked on it, but the long, lean body generally does not lend itself as well to sprinting. those are usually the shorter, more muscular swimmers.

plus, phelps works too hard to be a sprinter.

but i thought that the greatest sprinters of all time were rather tall.

after watching the 2000 4x100 and then the 2008 race, it's quite eerie that almost the exact same thing happened. the anchor of the team made a comment about smashing the eventual winners (although hall was funnier and more flambuoyant), and then coughed up the race in the final 25 meters.

the only difference was that the americans weren't jerks about it, really. but i never understood the australians playing of the air guitars afterwards. they clearly misinterpreted hall's comments as being about guitars, rather than wrestling, which i assume was their proper context.

I'm actually going to watch the rest of the gymnastics just so I can see those stupid cheating Chinese lose.

I couldn't have been happier when I got home from the River Cats game and saw the U.S. went 1-2 in the women's individual all-around.

Not to mention that it's awesome hearing the commentator relentlessly rip the judging. I'm also looking forward to some Bela Karolyi.

Yeah, if it would have just been me then I would have chalked it up to my lack of gymnastics knowledge. But it's a pretty big step for the commentators to be so openly questioning the judging like that. There was no hesitation whatsoever.

The US girls won, so obviously the fix wasn't in or anything like that. I really don't know what was happening, but it was embarrassing to watch. And all the phone conversations, too -- especially while some gymnast is waiting to perform. That seems a little too bush-league for something like the Olympics.

But perhaps this is not Johnson's final chance at individual gold.

After the meet, both gymnasts retracted earlier comments that this Olympics would mark the end of their careers.

"Now she is thinking to keep going," Valeri said of his daughter.

Then, during the news conference, Johnson said she'd changed her mind, too.

"A month ago, I would have said I was done," Johnson said. "But after being here, I would give anything to feel this way again."

USA has the makings of an incredibly talented olympic gynmastics team in 2012. Not only would Liuken and Johnson make for a solid top end, there was another 16 year old girl (can't think of her name at the moment) that competed this year as well.
