Notre Dame is bad.

I'd like to think its more that UCLA is good. :)

But sadly, it looks like you're right.

Blowouts of USC and Notre Dame in one week? Too bad this isn't football.

Harangody limited to 5 pts and 1 board. Heh.

Makes sense. You have NBA players on your roster. This is his near future. If he makes a team.

Not in the post. Alfred Aboya, Nikola Dragovic and James Keefe were the primary guys who guarded him.

Keep in mind Harangody put up 21 and 14 against UConn and 31 and 11 against Georgetown.

I know he did. I also know he does that because he is their offense. Their team is a mess right now after being pretty good early on. I think like Andy said it's because they are trying to take away MAC on the perimeter. Thus Gdy is allowed to clean up. Still I don't think he is going to be much of a pro.

Wow, Notre Dame is one of the worst teams I've ever seen. I just spent most of the game laughing at them.

I don't understand this at all. Brey has to be feeling a bit of heat. Every year it seems his teams underacheive.

Siena loses at Rider, probably costs them a chance at an at-large. They could have benefitted from a better bracketbuster draw. Northern Iowa is dominating the MVC this year, but that as their marquee win coupled with bad losses to Rider and Wichita St., likely isn't enough. I guess if they lost to Niagra in the championship they could have a chance, but they'd have to hope for no conference tourney upsets.

I'm not understanding how we came to his teams underachieving every year (he won back to back Big East coach of the year awards because his team did the exact opposite), but our abject refusal to play defense, ever, has clearly caught up with us.

Important late afternoon/night games:

FSU/Clemson

FSU should coast to a tourney bid with a win here. A Clemson win keeps them on pace for a 2 or 3 seed as they don't have another difficult matchup the rest of the way until their last game of the year against Wake.

Michigan/UConn

Michigan looked very impressive against PSU the other night after losing 5 of 6 before that. A win here and they could swing a tourney berth with an 8-10 Big Ten record based on their monster nonconference wins. UConn can lose 2-3 games the rest of the way and hold on to their #1 seed. They have 2 left with Pitt, a game at Marquette, and the Big East tourney. They can survive a loss her and grab a 1, but they can only afford to lose one game they shouldn't IMO.

MN/OSU

Both look like good bets for the tourney, both sitting at 6-4 in conference. Winner keeps a chance at winning the Big 10, loser will be out of the race.

Northwestern/Iowa

NU has put themselves into bubble talk, and can't afford to slip up in games they should win. They lose at Iowa, their chances are toast. Iowa can still make the NIT by holding serve at home, and hoping for a bid, but the game is largely unimportant to them.

Baylor/Texas Tech

Baylor is on a 4 game losing streak in which they faced the top 4 teams in the Big 12. They've slipped into a tie for 8th in the Big 12, and likely slipped in the tourney pecking order behind Kansas St. and Nebraska and not really much distinguishing them from A&M. They lose this, they're pretty much done.

KSU/A&M

Jockeying for position to grab a Big 12 at large spot. KSU is in a better spot than A&M right now, and a home loss for the Aggies would be trouble since they're in the much more difficult Big 12 south.

Missouri/Iowa St.

Missouri will get ranked this week with a win. They have no bad losses this year.

OK St./KU

Their win at Nebraska is looking better, but OK St. needs to beat a couple of these top teams to have a chance at the tourney. KU is undefeated in conference play, but haven't played any of the other top 4 yet. If they avoid going 0-4 in those games, while beating the also-rans they should grab a protected seed.

Providence/WV

Providence needs to beat somebody on the road before being taken seriously. WV needs to keep beating the nobodies if they're not going to beat anybody of substance in conference play.

Gonzaga/Memphis

The 2 most overrated teams in NCAA go at it to see who gets an undeserved protected seed.

I guess it isn't every year, but his teams with Chris Thomas never did as well as they should have. This years team is easily a top 15 team, but they sure as hell are not playing like it. He seemed to do better with less talent during the Chris Quinn era.

Yeah, I've had that thought before. I thought his best coaching job was just to keep his team from committing suicide in 2005-06, when he took a band of nobodies (led by Quinn) and they at one point were 1-8 in the Big East despite outscoring their conference opponents (they had a 27-point win and lost the 8 by a total of 24 points).

I'm guessing there will be a little heat on him entering into 09-10.

Part of it isn't his fault either. That conference is just ridiculous.

St. John's isn't ridiculous. Cincinnati isn't ridiculous. Brey has failed this year.

He took the Irish to the tournament his first 3 years(first visits since 1990), and since then has been there twice in 5 years(and is about to make it 2 for 6) Chris Thomas and Torin Francis never improved from their freshmen years. He's stagnated, and this team stinks right now.

The officials appartenly "took into account the current state of the Indiana program" when looking at the replay of that elbow.

Punk.

wait, they used a replay for that? i thought they just missed the call live , and the tv guys were rehashing it.

Nope, they looked at a replay.

I thought it was probably intentional, but wasn't too surprised when the ref gave the benefit of the doubt to the player. Of course, Dumes removed all doubt when he continued later in the game.

Other then that, I thought IU played all right, but Dumes continuing to be a hothead is really bothering me. I wouldn't mind Crean leaving him on the bench for a game even though that would practically guarantee an IU loss.

53 fouls called in the nova-syracuse game. that's like ed hightower's crew on steroids. seriously, does anyone enjoy a basketball game where a foul is being called every 45 seconds? that's just brutal to watch and a lot of the good players end up riding pine because of foul trouble.

So, Iowa didn't make a 2-pt FG in the first half and are winning by 3. If NW loses this one I think their tournament hopes are about done.

I'm glad Iowa has put a big damper on Northwestern's tournament hopes after they took away our Big Ten Title one year and gave us a bad loss in a year where we were on the bubble another year.

Mizzou didn't screw up in Ames, with a comfortable double digit win. 7-2 in the conference now and 2 games up on 4th place, with Kansas coming to town on Monday. Finally, a Kansas game where we have a fighting chance of winning.

Northwestern's done. Holding serve at home & winning at IU only brings them to 18-11. Their other road games don't look doable(at MN, PU, OSU) They had their chances with close losses @ Butler, @ PSU, and vs. Purdue. Hold on to 2 of those, and 20 wins mighta done it, but barring a Big Ten Tourney run to the finals they're out.

Michigan put a nice effort, woulda been great to get that win for the conference, but it still looks good on their resume. To get the at-large they're going to need to come away with one of the Purdue or MSU games. 9-9 will probably get them in, but with a rough schedule, that would likely take a couple road wins(NU and Iowa their best bets)

holy cross beat lafayette on the road tonight to stay in the lead for the patriot league. we're tied with american - each having one loss. we lost to navy on the road though, while they beat navy, so if both teams can win the rest of their league games then home court will come down to the game on the 21st, holy cross @ american.
