Best win of the year by Purdue.

Very big win 4-0 in conference since the first two losses....Can I ask you a question though. We won the game by 8, but it should have been like 15. When did this team forget how to shoot free throws? Last year the entire team was around 75% or better except for Kramer he shot like 61% last year? Man are free throws killing us. He's the only guy who can make a big free throw down the stretch

Yeah, if I were Painter I would put the clamps down and have these guys focusing on free throws.

It's driving me crazy cause it's killing us in games. Also Calasan has become really bad.

And I'm not trying to be mean but how do you not know the regular season champ gets a trophy and cuts down the net?

because I don't care about it.

your team would probably need to win one before you'd care.

holy cross has won plenty of them.

the reason i don't think it matters that much is because there's a postseason tourney where you cut down the nets and get a trophy. i guess it means that you're getting a good seed in the ncaa tourney, but really if you finish 1st or 2nd or 3rd in any "bcs conference" you're getting into the field of 64 and you're getting a pretty good seed.

If you're a fan of a small school I can see why a regular season title wouldn't be that thrilling because all that gets you is an auto bit to the NIT. If you lose in the conference tourney it's all for nothing.

i root for psu also but more for holy cross since they're both competing at the same level. i guess maybe my attitude about regular-season titles is partly due to the patriot league regular season champ not being guaranteed a thing except for home court advantage in the PL finals. you aren't even guaranteed an NIT spot, unless they changed the rules.

This, when I played at a small school and we won our tourney it meant we got to play in the National tournament. The next year we won the regular season title, but were upset in the championship and missed the tournament. So yeah for a small school the regular season doesn't mean howry.

A year or two ago they made it so the regular season champion got an automatic bid to the NIT, I believe. I think it's still that way but I don't follow the tournament so I'm not sure.

And probably because it's HARD to win the BT regular season title.

nobody follows the NIT closely. except perhaps michigan fans.

You have your glitzy tournament, we'll have ours. I'm especially excited about this year's tournament as we've already had experience playing on the MSG floor.

that's trumped by the unexpected improvement within the conference.

There's the issue. Who is Indiana a decent bet to finish ahead of next year or '10-'11? For next year, I've got their best case scenario as 8th in conference. For '10-'11, I'd think MSU, Purdue, Illinois, OSU, Wisconsin, and Minnesota are all pretty safe bets to finish ahead of IU. That leaves them as 7th at best fighting with 4 other teams with way more experienced talent.

A couple not-so-quick points (and it seems I'm commenting on your string of posts, not specifically the above quoted one):

1) IU is near certain to have an easier schedule next season (admitting that I don't know what it will entail exactly). Pomeroy has their overall schedule as No. 4 in the nation, and No. 55 for non-conference only. IU won't be in Maui, should get a much easier ACC/Big Ten opponent than Wake Forest, won't be playing Gonzaga again, will play a Kentucky team that likely loses both Meeks and Patterson to the NBA, and, finally, I think you'll see Crean ease up on the schedule regardless. Some of the wins they'll need will simply come from easier games.

2) With the current crop of coaches in the Big Ten, and the recruiting renaissance, I think you'll see the tournament berths increase. I'd expect six or seven most every season from here on out. While upward mobility will be more difficult, the selection committee is likely to include more Big Ten teams. Your "seventh at best" may, in fact, be good enough.

3) As Big Ten fans, we probably should just get accustomed to Ohio State having about the most talent in the league every year. As long as Matta is there, I doubt many -- if any -- will out-recruit him. That said, their on-court results (excepting, of course, a once-in-a-lifetime Oden/Conley Jr. class) figure to lag behind their paper talent. I don't think any talented teams should concede a higher finish to Ohio State because of talent. Who has more talent this year, Ohio State or Illinois? Ohio State. Who is better? Illinois. That may be near axiomatic.

yeah they should stay away from those potential trap games against northeastern and lipscomb

The schedule point is a very good one. I assume Indiana was locked into some of those games and couldn't get out(Maui for sure, and they aren't gonna give up UK for one year), but that noncon schedule was a horrible thing for a team full of freshmen.
