don't think the first bolded one was ever a cub, and I'm not sure who the second two bolded ones are...

Cueto would be Johnny Cueto, a ROOKIE pitcher for the Reds. He could not possibly be an ex-Cub, and I think Acosta would be Manny Acosta.

Ok. Lohse was in the Cubs' minor league system, but I don't think that should count. Cueto and Acosta were both never anywhere near the Cubs organization.

but the only Manny Acosta, according to br.com, doesn't seem to have ever been part of the organization. is that correct?

Correct. I posted and then looked him up. I should have looked him up and then posted.

I did the same with Lohse -- I had no idea until I saw that today. Apparently, Lohse netted us Rick Aguilera (one of the earliest Cubs I remember) and Scott Downs :)

Garland

Willis

Prior

Clement

Estes

and we drafted Linecum in a late round in '03, but never signed him.

Im sure most teams have a list like that though.

Prior and Clement don't count; the list is of ex-Cubs who are currently pitching in the majors, not tossing towels. :D

The Cubs had a reliever named Jose Cueto in the minor leagues a few years back, but I don't think he ever made it to the bigs. I could be wrong since I haven't bothered to look it up.

The Cubs' Jose Cueto

He was in the Cubs' system from 1999 through 2001. He was then one of the players traded to Florida in the trade for Clement and Alfonseca and played in Florida's system during 2002 and 2003, before returning to the Cubs' system for 2004. He pitched in 4 games (5 IP) in 2004 and put up a 19.80 ERA; he's been out of baseball ever since. He never got higher than AA.

In other Cubs ex-pitcher news, I'm really glad the Cubs parted ways with Prior. I wish him luck with his life but I think he's done (at least as far as being dominant is concerned). He's having season ending shoulder surgery again. Everything is going right for the Cubs now and I'm glad they don't have this hanging over their collective heads (all the questions and nonstop media talk that is).

He got sent down, not called up. He started the season on the major league DL and got sent down when he was activated. He hasn't been on the Orioles' 25-man roster this year.

Is Sisco still up?
No. He's out for the year after undergoing TJS. At the time he was on the roster of the Sox' AAA team.

Gerard Depardieu

Am I remembering terribly wrong when I think that we were right on the edge of acquiring the Big Unit the same season he was traded to Houston?

For some reason I think we almost had him, but the Astros snatched him up from us. Not sure at all on that, though.
