you can just tell...

“There’s no spot there for me in terms of the guys that are there right now, but it doesn’t mean I’m not out here every day playing as hard as I can,” said Murton, 26.

Murton’s .362 batting average is eighth in the league. His 46 hits include just one home run in 127 at-bats.

Corner outfielders usually hit more, although Fukudome has just two.

“I know I can work into hitting for more power,” Murton said, “but it’s not something anybody wants to force on me, and it’s not something I’m forcing on myself.

“It’s something that will come with experience. It’s happened with other players.”

It can happen, but as a Cub or while wearing another uniform?

“I’ve resigned myself to the fact that this is where I’m going to be until something happens,” he said.

“You have to keep going out there trying to compete everyday, but I’d be lying if I said that was always an easy thing to do,” said Murton, the Cubs’ final spring training cut.

“There’s days when you come out and you’re obviously frustrated by your circumstance, but I think you owe it to your teammates and to yourself to keep working and trying to get the most out of it.”

I freaking named my cat after Murton. He better not be going anywhere. Then I have to kill my cat.

I have a ball with both Marshall's and Murton's autograph on it. I'd like at least one of them to have success.

The best he can hope for right now is becoming a version of Fukudome with worse defense and being stuck in LF. However, it's questionable whether he will ever develop enough power to fill that role. His OBP will always be good, but if that's all he can hang hit hat on, it will be hard seeing him as more than a good 4th OF/decent LF. If that's the case, it's difficult to imagine him getting regular playing time over Fukudome and Soriano, much less DeRosa, Ward, Hoffpauir, and Reed Johnson.

I'm rooting for the guy to succeed, but I have trouble seeing it happen on this team as it is currently composed.

He needs to be traded and he should have been traded before last season if Lou was just going to use Floyd so much anyway. The Cubs are not trading Fukudome and I don't see him playing CF regularly. I don't think they're trading Soriano in the next couple years. Murton's 26 this season, trade him now while he still has value. If he posts another .900+ OPS in the minors for the next 2-3 years, it's not going to increase his value. And if he declines (due to lack of talent, frustration, whatever) or gets injured, you've greatly reduced his value.

I think he can have more power than Fukudome has shown so far, but he's not going to supplant Fukudome. After his performance in the 2nd half of his first year (and even the 2nd half last year), I really wanted Murton to get a full-time gig. But Hendry has completely blocked him for all of his cheap/prime years. Trade him now.

I have an I-Cubs ticket stub with Rod Beck's signature. I'll start the bidding at $4 million

Was he signed at his trailer down by the river?

yes it was, while I was drinking one of his Coors Lights. I had 4 of them at one time, but I can only seem to locate 1 now. thank you for your bid, do I hear $4.5 million?

Sure, tell me where to find them. The local Hy-Vee?

Is Shooter's trailer still there? Maybe Murton could move in.
