Let's play odds ball: Sox are in, Cubs are out

http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/rosenblog/2008/05/lets-play-odds.html

Here's the deal, Cubs fans: I lied. You have no chance. It's over. As they say in the sports books and Tim Donaghy's house, the betting trend is your friend. If one of the current NL division leaders goes down, odds are it will be the Cubs.

This was posted in our last thread about Rosenbloom:

the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of Orange County of California of the United States of the Northern Hemisphere of Earth

That's hilarious. Never heard anyone make a play off the Angels' name before.

Today's article:

and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of The O.C. of the Governator's State of America, dang it, of the Northern Hemisphere of Earth (LAAAOCGSANHE). The LAAAOCGSANHE

He's such a great newspaper columnist that he's been relegated to the Web version only. Nuff said.

So he's basically a blogger?

I can't tell you how many journalists just adore being called a "blogger"...heh.

Blogger implies a person whose intention it is to purposefully post on the Internet. This is a man who went from being a Tribune sports columnist, to RedEye sports columnist, to part-time features columnist to full-time online columnist. I don't think he realizes what's happened yet and is curious why he never sees himself in print any more.

Rosennbloom has always been awful, both in print and on the radio, where his show on ESPN 1000 with the equally horrendous Salisbury was mercifully short-lived. I am not sure that I get what role he plays for the Trib - court jester?

The Trib columnists aren't very good in general, but he really is over the top. I think its intentional.

I agreed with one part of that "article."

condescension is one of my best traits

So is being an idiot and an a-hole.

That was good for a few laughs. I just love reading comments from Sox fans, they give credence to the stereotypes:

I agree. The Cubs can't win on the road therefore in my opinion they will be Completely Useless By Summer. Sox take 6 from Cubs and there's a 14 game losing streak in June. Sox may win division Cubs finish LAST!

Save yourself the wasted time and just read the first comment. It says all anyone will ever need to know:

Comments

Absolutely awful.

Boy he's trying to top himself every week. After bashing the Cubs for playing weak schedule, he comes up with this fine piece of journalism...

When you've played the Pirates and a whole bunch of the NL West, then you ought to have the best record in baseball, but look out, the Cardinals are only 2½ games behind. I still can't figure out how, and that's what worries me. There are reasons to feel great about the Cubs—the starting pitching, the bullpen, the way the offense can come back—but we expected a first-place team. We did not expect the Cardinals to be this close. At least, I didn't. I mean, they've on the verge of starting their seventh rookie pitcher this season.

I read the bold and immediately thought whaaaaaa??? They don't have a rookie in their rotation, and surely they aren't replacing one of their starters right now...

What Steve was TRYING to say is that this is the 7th Cardinals rookie (position or pitcher) to make their debut this season. Way to just completely butcher the facts Steve.

It's almost like he blames the Cubs for only being 2.5 games ahead. The Cubs have the best record in baseball. I hate to say it, but the fact that St. Louis is only 2.5 games back is a credit to the Cardinals, not a fault of the Cubs. St. Louis has kept pace with a team that has played better than anyone else through the first two months of the season. It's not like the Cubs have kept them in the race by playing poorly.

Maybe he uses "pitcher" to refer to any player the way some people use "Coke" to mean any soda. :D

I love how everyone is ripping him to shreds in the comments section. Someone in charge needs to read that and fire his dumb ass.

I know I am being redundant here, but Rosenbloom is a Grade A shmuck. He obviously doesn't get that, if you get fat on the mediocre and crap teams and go around .500 against everyone else, you consistently wind up with one of the three best records in the game.

My favorite part about him is how he tries to come across as a tough guy in his bio section on the blog. It reads to me like, "they tell me I have to write something here but I'm Steve Freaking Rosenbloom, 30 years in the business and everybody already knows me."

Why would they fire him? I bet they're loving that he's drawing so many folks to their web site.
