CINCINNATI (TICKER) —The Cincinnati Reds announced Monday that Jay Bruce, regarded as baseball’s top prospect, will be recalled from the minor leagues.

...

The promotion of Bruce would seem to indicate that the offseason signing of Corey Patterson was a mistake. The speedy outfielder is hitting just .201 with four homers and 13 RBI in 44 games.

Either Patterson will be DFA or we will get rid of one of the catchers.

I wouldn't mind having Patterson around as a defensive replacement and pinch runner if we had a different manager. Dusty can't have Corey though.

Wow. Is he beginning to see the error of Dusty's ways?

I'm impressed. It took most of us a year or so to see them.

no, corey patterson's body of work as a major league baseball player would seem to indicate that the signing of corey patterson was a mistake.

I know. Winning is the ultimate band-aid.

You gotta remember that Jocketty is running the show now and Krivsky is gone. Jocketty would never have hired Dusty, and will probably fire him as soon as he feasibly can.

As far as the Edmonds/Patterson thing goes, I'd rather have Pie back up playing regularly. But if I were forced to choose between Edmonds and CPatt, I would be more than a little interested in seeing if Perry could undo some of the damage Dusty did to him and teach him a little patience. It's a long shot, but Perry might be able to turn him into a serviceable, league average hitter. Corey at least still can provide outstanding defense out there in center too.

The Reds should trade Joey Votto and move Patterson to first in order to make room for Bruce.

On the subject of the Greatest Manager Ever...did I read this right...did Baker throw Volquez on 3 days rest the other day? ROFL.

You read it right, but in Dusty's defense, it was the 16th, 17th and 18th innings out in San Diego yesterday. It's not as if he had an abundance of options; it was either Volquez or Cueto.

so wait, where has reds44 been to tell us how wrong we were about dusty?

Hey did you know Roast works for the Cubs?

I never said you guys were wrong about Dusty. I've always said im well aware of what happend in Chicago and that I will let him hang himself in Cincinnati.

In all honesty, I'd prefer Patterson to Edmonds.

As would I, but that's like choosing between which slow and painful way to die. They're both miserable baseball players.

What I'd like to see (if the Reds DFA Corey and he clears waivers) is for the Cubs to sign him to a minor league contract, send him to Iowa, and see if Von Joshua can turn him around.

haha, like the cubs haven't done enough to damage pie's psyche.

I'd be shocked if we didn't sign him, if indeed he gets DFA'd.

And considering how much I hate Edmonds and his -10 OPS+, I'd probably be giddy about the move.
