I know this trade has gotten beaten into the ground a million times, but wow was that Juan Pierre trade bad for us. Not only did he do nothing for us, and was only on the team for one year. But just check out Renyel Pinto's numbers this year. Wow, would I love to have him in our Pen to go along with Wood and Marmol. Nolasco's numbers aren't that good, but he has had some good starts, and when I watch him throw I still like what I see. That was just such a desperate trade to get a so called lead off man who has an awful OBP.

Nolasco is 2-3 with a 5.35 ERA. Not very good, but like I said I've seen him show signs this year.

Pinto is 1-1 with a 0.76 ERA. That is in 23.2 IP. Even last year and the year before he had good numbers.

those guys would not have gotten the shot in Chicago they did in Fla. They were buried in a pitching deep system at the time.

So what people who are against the trade is saying is....the Cubs could have had a Pinto, a Geo, and Marquis on the roster? What is the Chicago Cubs car dealership or something?

and if we had traded Marshall, he might be putting up quality starts every time out and we'd wish we still had him. i'm not really crying over spilt milk.

Pinto still cant throw strikes no matter what his numbers are right now a little over a month in but we traded garbage for garbage....dont see the complaint

The Pierre trade was a bad trade, no matter how you look at it and no matter how the guys we traded ended up doing. It was a bad trade at the time without knowing how everyone would turn out, and it's a bad trade now that we do know. This definitely goes down as a knock on Hendry, there was no reason to make that awful trade.

That said, this trade in no way is a trade we should be talking about years after it happened like we do with Lou Brock. It was a bad trade, but not bad enough to be mad about this long after the fact.

Not to derail the thread, the only transaction I can think of since I've been alive that is worth still being pissed over wasn't even a trade. It was when the biggest idiot in the history of the Chicago Cubs, Larry Himes, allowed Greg Maddux to walk for no good reason.

The problem wasn't that the Cubs traded Pinto, Nolasco and Mitre. The problem is that they traded all 3 of them in the same trade.....for Juan Pierre. They were 3 of the Cubs top 5 pitching prospects at the time. Most figured they could have gotten a better player than Pierre for those 3. Or perhaps they could have traded one plus a similar prospects for Pierre and used the other 2 for another player.

I thought it was a dumb move at the time, and I think Hendry was just in a rush to get the deal done and caved.

I was always a fan of Pinto, and Nolasco, even back when he was plain old Carlos Nolasco. Also, the fact that we had Zambrano, the orgnization was very high on Hill and Guzman, and still thought Prior was going to return to form was a big factor in the deal.

At the time, Pierre was one of the premier leadoff men in the league, and we probably planned on signing him to a long term deal.

Not a great move, but not one that will exactly be lamented years down the road.

The current stats of the traded players is not the main issue It was a dumb trade mainly because Hendry gave up 3 guys who had substantial market value at the time for one year of a mediocre CF. Hendry squandered even more market value by failing to trade Pierre at the deadline, despite the fact that Pierre was riding a big hot streak that would've made him easy to move. Wasting market value of players is a primary reason why Hendry needs a big budget to field a competitive team. Pie's value is being wasted right now. He should have been traded while his value was high instead of being foisted on a manager who doesn't want him.
