Ehh, it's been posted in the last two game threads but it probably deserves its own thread.

This happened April 21st. And again, as i put in the other thread, he is not on the DL, just back in Mesa.

Is he not on the DL because they expect him back at any day? I can't understand why they've held him out for two weeks, send him back to Mesa for treatment, but not put him on the DL.

He's completely off the Peoria roster.

I didnt even need to hover on those links to figure out who they were...and I even guessed who you'd list first and who you'd list second.

Eh, Soto's worked out nicely and we have Donaldson, so I don't mind skipping over Wieters. Vitters hasn't failed yet. Give him time.

Just because you're set at a position doesn't mean you pass on a guy at the same position if you deem him the best available prospect (considering any financial restraints). If the Cubs felt Wieters was the best available prospect and the financial aspect made sense, they should have selected him.

True, but I'm just saying I don't mind it. If they had selected Wieters I'd be happy, but I'm not making a big deal out of this pick like the Vitters-haters. That is until he gives me reason to do so, which I don't think he will.

Moreover, if you don't think Wieters is going to stick at catcher, it makes passing on him in favor of Soto is not the brightest idea in the world.

Rick Porcello is doing one in high A already though. I really wish we would have went that way with the pick. The hell with Selig and his threats. The Yankees and Tigers go over slot every year.

And then the ESPNs of the world praise them for what wonderful drafters they are, when really, they're just spenders.

Yeah, but we should have done the same thing. Bud isn't coming down on us. We make him way too much money for that.

Josh Vitters is a three time loser.

He can't hit.

He can't handle his position defensively.

He can't stay healthy.

Other than that, he's a superstar-in-waiting.

Good Lord, calm the hell down about Vitters being a bust, people. The guy's had some nagging injuries and is still 18. He's got a ton of time to grow and develop.

If you're upset about the Cubs taking him over Wieters, Porcello, Parker, etc, fine, you'll get no quarrel from me. But...damn, labeling him a bust at this point is insane. The guy hasn't been a Cub for a year.

And Heyward. (I think I was the only one so enamored by Heyward.)

i liked heyward too, just not for the cubs organization.

i'll wait until vitters is hitting .220 in daytona in 2010 before i call him a bust.

What do you mean? I had to guess. It could have been Wieters, Porcello, Jason Heyward, Nick Noonan, Jarrod Parker, Tim Alderson, or any number of the one billion draft picks accomplishing more than Vitters.

It is not insane considering he's a Cub and considering the track record. 100% of the time in these cases when someone has posted the traditional "call for patience" that you just did, they've been wrong every single time. The early panicking on all of these guys, has been justified. Now I've seen it all. And these guys do not get the benefit of the doubt with me, they have to prove themselves to me. Because I've seen this little lecture delivered about Pawelek, I remember all the blah blah blah about "Oh, wait until Brownlie gets his velocity back" or the "Let's not throw Luke Hagerty under the bus yet" or "Grant Johnson looks like crap now but he needs more time to recuperate" or "The Cubs knew Harvey was raw when they took him, he needs time." Well the hell with that.

Everything about Vitters smells. I didn't like that his drafting report read like Rockies bust Chris Nelson. That he was another one of these stamp-of-death Vlad Guerrero comparisons, he's been a Cub how long and he's been sidelined by every little thing and when he is on the field he can't hit or field worth a damn.

He doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt. Neither does this organization. I think it's more insane to blindly hand out the benefit of the doubt in this case.

I'm sure TB fans are also pissed that David Price has accomplished less than Vitters, amongst others.

That first month in the first full pro season is so important.

Maybe in Tampa had a history of destroying stud college pitchers than I'd say that's an apt comparison. But it's not. And it's silly to pretend like that's the case. Heck, even in one of the Baseball America mailbags John Manuel said Vitters prognosis for success was diminished because he was taken by the Cubs.

But I'm sure it'll all work out because we're the Cubs, and let's not jump the gun because it's not like this doesn't look like the beginning of a scenario we've seen played out a ton or anything.

Your arguments don't work because every time people on here have said about a prospect "give him some time" it's been the kiss of death. "Oh Colvin just needs to readjust to wood, give him time." Yeah, that must be it.
