What does it say about Rothschild that Hill is supposed to get "fixed" at AAA. After Rothschild was working with him this whole time (and probably should have left him alone).

yeah, not exactly a ringing endorsement for larry. especially since hill says he hasn't been right all year (including ST).

Well there was the whole Alan Dunn vs Larry Rothschild thing in 2006 where Dunn had to "fix" Hill after he came back from AAA and had some really harsh things to say about Larry's work with Rich. And then Rich starts having big league success when Larry didn't mess with him the second time up.

Maybe Rich should fix himself.

Sammy Sosa was a [expletive] for talking to Jeff Pentland.

...okay...

My point is, people keep looking for someone to blame/credit for Hill's failures/successes. The guy's 28 years old, he should be capable of working through difficult patches without people talking about how this pitching coach or that pitching coach isn't doing a good enough job.

Pitching coaches exist for a reason, and that's because it's extremely difficult to fix mechanical issues by yourself, especially the fine differences that make a difference at the highest level like MLB.

So the blame should go to Larry Rothschild for Rich Hill's suckiness?

Yes, he's the one who screwed with Hill's mechanics at the beginning of the year when there was no need to.

You are exactly right. He should be allowed to work through his tough patches, and by being pushed back, and skipped, and not starting for 9 days, thats not exactly letting him work through it. Hill was a top 30 pitcher last year yet Lou still had a short fuse with Rich. So this year our manager and pitching coach decide that one of the better pitchers in all of baseball the previous year, needs to change his mechanics. You tell me where that makes any sense. You dont fix something that isnt broke, but yet our manager has a fascination with trying to fix things that arent broke.

He wouldn't need to be fixed if Larry remembered what happened the last time he tried to fix Rich in 2006.

All true. But on the bright side, consider Lou's quote from the Trib:

"Losing Hill is a bigger blow than people think," Piniella said. "We're talking about a young pitcher who we penciled in for 15 wins or so, and 200 innings. It's not easy to replace. Let's hope he gets himself straightened out, and quickly."

I think Rich will be back ASAP once he fixes his likely Rothschild-induced mechanical issues.

That quote would make me feel better if Piniella wasn't a proven liar on this sort of thing. But he is.

You really have a one-track mind on this stuff. Different situations require different tools and provide for different results. He might have been wrong or lying about Cedeno, but this is a different situation.

Has anyone even noticed that Lou is skipping Marquis's spots in the rotation his next time out? Or have we been too busy calling him names to do that?

It's a situation in which Piniella is asked to identify which baseball players should get playing time in order to advance the team's goal of winning. He's not showing a real good track record in these situations.

Ok, so you don't think he is good at his job. Doesn't make him a liar.
