When does it usually start? Just curious.

There's quite a few guys I'd like to vote for on this team (yes, I realize we're 3 weeks in).

don't lie vance... your students have each voted 1500 times already.

With what I have left to cover in the next three weeks, I doubt it. My eighth graders are knee-deep in Romeo and Juliet and my seventh graders, well there a bit behind where I'm going to need them to be for next year.

I remember when we watched the old Romeo and Juliet at school and there was that one scene with a boob shot. That was awesome.

Yea, I think we saw that one too. It was pretty new when we were covering it. Maybe a year or two old.

For a half-second. The girl who played Juliet was 13, which was awesome when I was in 9th grade because I was 13, but would be insanely weird now.

As of now I'm probably voting for all Cubs except Soriano but we'll see how the next few weeks play out.

One thing that I find interesting is that the Cubs usually do very poorly in All Star voting. With the reputation that Cub fans have, i.e. blind faith lemmings that jam the park every day, you would think that Cub players would regularly be at or near the top in all star voting. This has never been the case. Sosa used to always be up there, but that was due to his popularity around the league and his HR rep. Ramirez has never been close to starting, I don't know that Lee has, and there has never been an example of a Cub showing up among the voting leaders that made you scratch your head.

Not sure why that is, but maybe since so many are doing well this year, Cub fans will be a bit more selfish and vote our guys in. (Kosuke, Soto, Lee, Ramirez, etc)

Do they hand out ballots at Wrigley? I thought I remember hearing that they haven't done that in the past few years, and if that's the case, that's likely a big reason why because they do it at other stadiums.

I think fans at Wrigley aren't given the ballots quite as profusely as they are in other venues. I know when I was in Houston during the voting, they had a big thing on the jumbotron and then at one point in the game passed ballots out and then later collected them.

Those pushes in other parks probably are what causes this.

Or maybe the Cubs haven't had many good players.

I could see Lee, Soto, and Fukudome all having a chance to get voted in.

Right now the most deserving players to this point are:

C-Soto

1B-Berkman

2B-Utley

SS-Ramirez (stong case can be made for Furcal as well)

3B-Chipper

OF-McLouth

OF-Holliday

OF-Burrell

Ludwick probably deserves to be on there instead of one of those OF, but I refuse to acknowledge his ridiculous start to the season.
