Supposedly we tried to get him in the Kris Benson trade a couple of years ago but ended up with Ty Wigginton.

I'm glad the person who made that decision is now with the cubs.

I'm a fan of good baseball players who don't cheat to be good baseball players, even if they play for a rival ( I want them to fail miserably when they play the Cubs though. So I like to watch David Wright. He's pretty good at baseball.

I don't doubt that the Pirates asked for him, but I very much doubt they turned him down and opted for Wigginton.

Yeah if only you guys would have had a young, productive third baseman around that era so you could have built around him. Seriously though no way was there anything in your system that was going to get you David Wright. But you still got better by letting Dave walk.

Someone somewhere probably said the same thing about getting Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano.

On a side note, in 2003 I was at a Daytona Cubs/St.Lucie Mets game featuring Scott Kazmir as the Mets starting pitcher and both David Wright and Geo Soto playing. I didn't recognize the awesomeness at the time, but looking back that is pretty neat.

Someone that said that somewhere would have been a better gm than what the mets had going for them at that time. But, wasn't Kazmir really struggling to stay healthy and that was a big part of the reason the mets panicked and traded him? Wright was producing pretty much from day one.

Do people hate him b/c of all the pub he gets? b/c he's really good but plays for the hated Mets?

He's only out for himself, just like he always was. All he ever cared about was winning - winning - winning.

A real LOSER off-the-field too. No wonder he's headed for a second DIVORCE. LOUSY family man.

The all-star team does not make you a good person. He let it go to his head. I hope to GOD he never ever plays for the CUBS. I'll become a Whie Sox fan.

IT'S NICE TO BE IMPORTANT BUT IT'S MORE IMPORTANT TO BE NICE!!!!

On "60 Minutes" Bill James said he would be the one player he would start a team with (I think.... it was either that or the player that has all the qualities he's looking for).

Scott Kazmir was just a prospect with four starts above A ball when they traded him. It didn't have much to do with health, is was more about a moron GM (Steve Philips maybe?) trading a stud prospect for a mediocre vet. David Wright had only had a handful of major league at bats at the time of the Ty Wigginton/Kris Benson swap.

supposedly steve phillips offered david wright in a jose cruz jr. deal to the blue jays but was turned down by ricciardi, who is loved on here

that's a bit of an overstatement
